What is schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a brain disorder that affects the way a person acts, thinks, and sees the world; an altered perception of reality.

Symptoms Social withdraw Hostility or suspiciousness No personal hygiene Flat expressionless gaze Unable to express feelings Depression Oversleeping or insomnia Odd or irrational statements Forgetful, cant concentrate Extreme reactions Strong use of words or way of speaking

Diagnosis There are many different kinds of schizophrenia each with different affects However there are no specific tests in diagnosing the disease A diagnosis is made by family history, emotional history and current symptoms since the disease has no specific tests this makes diagnosis nearly impossible

In most cases the disease isn't noticed in most men until they reach their 20’s Men generally show signs before women as they reach it in their 30’s 2.4 million Americans affected by schizophrenia The more family members in the past or recently to have it improves your chances of getting it and how bad it could affect you Those affected

Causes There is no single known cause Schizophrenia is past down genetically, can also get the disease from abuse either physically, sexually or emotionally

Treatment Treatment for the disease is based on age, health and medical history The extent of the disease will determine how you are treated Its complex to treat schizophrenia because there is so many physical and mental factors to consider Specialized schools were formed to help those with the disease to learn normally

Famous people Eduard Einstein, the son of Albert Einstein he was a bright child with a love for music and very intelligent. However when he was placed in a mental asylum when he was 20 where he would die when he was 55 Mark Vonnegut the son of Kurt Vonnegut was also diagnosed with the disease and was lost in early adolescence

Interesting facts The disease usually affects people in their 20’s when their in their prime Parents with schizophrenia are often abusive and very random with everything they do.
