Church Urban Fund: Web of Poverty

The Big Question How do we help people in our communities whose money doesn’t work; who can’t pay for the bare necessities; who have to make hard choices between heating their homes, or having food on the table?

A new model of charitable activity

“Our task is not only to pull the drowning people out of the river. It is also to go to the top of the river and stop those who are pushing them in!” Jim Wallis, of The Sojourners

“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.” Archbishop Oscar Romero

Key Questions Are food banks the solution to food poverty? What are the underlying causes and how can these be addressed? What should trusts, foundations and charities be focussing their efforts on - the symptons of food poverty or the underlying causes?
