GR. 10 ART CULMINATING ASSIGNMENT

CHOICE 1: PAPIER MACHE GARGOYLES

Gargoyles  Gargoyles and grotesques were used to ward off evil spirits and protect the churches that they were created for  They adorn the outside of many cathedrals in Europe built during the Gothic Art time period

CHOICE 2: ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT LETTER Medieval Monks copied the pages of books by hand and richly decorated the more important pages of prayer, or Religious poems. The first letter of a page was enlarged and elaborated into a complex colour design. Gold was often used, causing it to shine, and hence the name Illuminated Manuscript letter.

CHOICE 3: CREATE A GOTHIC ROSE WINDOW

Rose Windows  Flourished in mid 13 th c  Large glass works incorporated into walls  By innovative architecture like flying buttresses the weight could be supported and thus large areas could be filled with glass  Most famous ones found in France, esp. Chartres Cathedral

Rose windows with a contemporary twist

CHOICE 4: ARTWORK OF GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE
