Presentation transcript:

These are the most common input devices and are used to input text, numbers & instructions into the computer. They are really easy to use, except for those with limited arm/wrist movement. They take up space

It is an example of a pointing device. By moving the mouse around, the user can control the movement of the pointer on the screen. LMB – select something. RMB – bring drop-down menus. Scroll button – quickly scrolling through a document.

Used in laptops as a pointing device. The pointer is controlled by the user moving his finger across the touchpad and gently tapping it to stimulate the LMB button of a mouse. Can be difficult to control the pointer when compared to a mouse. Faster to select options than keyboards.

It is used to control the operation of other devices remotely by using infra red signals. Can be operated from a far distance. Used to stop/start machinery. Used for T.V’s, R/C Cars, etc … Signal can be blocked easily.

With this system, the user can choose an option by simply touching the button icon on the screen. So there is no need for any pointing device. Used for self-service tills like petrol stations. The screen can get very dirty from constant touching.

They are used to enter information on a hard copy into a computer. The most common type is the flat bad which is made up of a glass panel & lid. It is possible to recover damaged documents/photographs by scanning them and using appropriate software.

They are used to read information in the form of a barcod. Used in supermarkets and other shops where the goods are marked with a barcode. Barcodes enable automatic stock control. The system is not fool-proof. Barcodes can swapped around on items.

Speakers can be connected directly to a computer or are built into the monitor. Digital data from the computer is converted into analogue form, using a DAC. The signal is amplified throught the speakers. Used mainly for entertainment.

Webcams are similar to a digital video camera. However, they are connected directly to the computer and they do not have a memory. Used while chatting. Image is usually of poor quality.

They are rapidly replacing traditional film- based cameras. Once photographs are stored in memory, they are easily stored into the computer using a usb. Able to take better quality photographs.
