Preliminaries  Complete the “QuickWrite” activity in Elements… p. 493.

Objectives:  The students will be able to describe the structure of an English sonnet.  Rhyme scheme  Meter  The students will be able to interpret the archaic language in “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?”

Focus Lesson: The Form…  The Sonnet form  Read-aloud model (Elements… p. 494)  Small Groups:  In groups of four, paraphrase each quatrain of the sonnet.  Each group will select one quatrain to present.  Independent Practice/Exit ticket: Elements… p. 495, “Response and Analysis,” and respond to questions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Homework: I-Search Project  Read another 50 pages in your I-Search project books.  Take at least 10 more QNQs.  Due 1/14.
