Team Greyshirt 01/25/06 Problem Statement When the oil filter is removed from the engine, the remaining oil spills. This oil drips on to the engine causing it to either smell of burnt oil, or drip on the garage floor. This may cause a customer to suspect poor service Currently there is no system in place to eliminate this problem.

Team Greyshirt 01/25/06 Problem Solution The goal is to design a tool to drain the oil filter before removal to reduce/eliminate the excess oil spillage. This product would be beneficial to commercial oil change facilities. The design would accommodate a wide variety of oil filter sizes and orientations.

Team Greyshirt 01/25/06 Design Partition Punch hole in oil filter –Design method to puncture side of oil filter in order to drain the oil. Drain oil from filter –Attach drain system to punch to collect the oil. Remove filter from engine –Incorporate wrench in with the punch to remove the filter from the engine.
