Rannis – The Icelandic Centre for Research Based on law from 2003 that re-organised the support system for research and innovation. Legal mandate to: – support research, innovation, education and culture in Iceland. – administer competitive funds in the fields of research, innovation, education and culture, as well as strategic research programmes. – coordinate and promote Icelandic participation in European programmes such, as Horizon 2020, Erasmus+ and Creative Europe. – monitor resources and performance in R&D and promotes public awareness of research and innovation, education and culture in Iceland. – cooperate closely with the Icelandic Science and Technology Policy Council and support preparation and implementation of national science and technology policy. – Any other tasks assigned to us by the Ministry

Rannís : an evolving institute Big changes in 2013 when Rannís took over European and Nordic programmes and 11 national funds in education and culture – New division – 18 new employees Transfer of tasks to the Icelandic Statistical Office in 2014 – Discontinue separate Evaluation and Analysis division – laid of 3 employees Taking in-house accounting and finance in 2014 – Strengthening Administrative Division with 2-3 staff
