CGMS-43-NOAA-WP-03 Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites - CGMS Current Processing & Distribution Polar products – DDS & NDE 1.0 GOES products – GEODIST McIDAS formatted products – GEODIST Highly manual data access process – Paper data access requests – Subscriptions all manually managed by OSPO Slide: 3
CGMS-43-NOAA-WP-03 Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites - CGMS Processing and Distribution - PDA Purpose of the Production Distribution and Access (PDA) system is to serve as the NESDIS enterprise distribution system for our near real-time users. All near real-time distribution except for McIDAS will be migrated to PDA – phased approach (new missions and then current missions). McIDAS ADDE access will remain on GEODIST systems for the foreseeable future. GOES-R near real-time products will be provided to AWIPS2/Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN), GOES Re-Broadcast (GRB) and the primary PDA * system at NSOF. S-NPP/JPSS products will be provided via PDA. PDA is being developed for OSPO by the Office of Satellite Ground Services (OSGS). PDA Distribution Service Improvements: Highly automated user driven process User managed subscriptions, search and tailoring Enhanced security controls / transfer protocols Enhanced reporting and control for system optimization Ability to handle large data volumes *note – there is no GOES-R product distribution from the backup PDA (only AWIPS2 and GRB services provided in the event of a backup scenario)
CGMS-43-NOAA-WP-03 Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites - CGMS Data Access & Distribution Policy Contact: Full policy and forms at Security requirement to document and control all users accessing operational data servers – Users request data using a web based app located at Significant increases in data volumes necessitate prioritization of users to effectively manage data distribution resources to ensure effective system performance Higher priority access will be given to organizations with: – Mission and statutory authority that supports the requirement for real-time data access – Signed NESDIS cooperative agreements or other legislative authorities – A demonstrated timeliness requirement for near-real time satellite data and products to support operational user applications. Non real-time users are encouraged to access satellite data from NESDIS’ Comprehensive Large Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS) via ftp at: If available, users will be directed to sources of data that are external to NESDIS but still fulfill their data requirements/needs.
