Safety Construction Site Safety Various construction projects occurring at Good Sam The following tips are important to ensure a safe workplace: Carefully read all construction signage posted throughout the campus Drive carefully through construction zones Report any unsafe/dangerous activity to the public safety department

Energy Overview As a system, we met our % energy reduction goal –Reduced energy consumption by approximately 23% –Focus is on next goal of 20% reduction by 2020 GSAM reduced their energy usage per square foot (kBtu/SF) by approximately 11% from 2008 to 2015

Demand Response Definitions: –Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts (PJM): PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in many states, including the northern part of Illinois. –Demand Response Program: A voluntary PJM program that compensates end-use (retail) customers for reducing their electricity use (load), when requested by PJM, during periods of high power prices or when the reliability of the grid is threatened. These customers receive payments from PJM members called Curtailment Service Providers. –Demand Response Event: A rare occurrence in which the reliability of the grid is threatened. PJM will notify participants and request that they reduce their load by a certain amount.

Continued Advocate received over $600,000 for participating in PJM’s program in 2015 –Most of the savings came from running emergency generators during defined test dates to prove that we could curtail in the case of an actual demand response event

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations Advocate promotes EV use by offering charging stations at some of its sites, including GSAM EV’s are great for the environment, because they do not run on gasoline or diesel Gasoline and diesel are harmful to the environment –Burning these fuels creates GHG emissions that contributes to global warming Advocate charges each user $0.15/kWh If you own an EV and are interested in signing up with our provider (ChargePoint), let me know!

Water Overview Village of Downers Grove: –“The DuPage Water Commission (DWC) purchases Lake Michigan water from the City of Chicago and in turn, distributes and sells it to member communities, including Downers Grove. The price increase that Downers Grove customers will pay also includes increases in the rates charged by the DWC, which announced a series of rate increases that went into effect January 1, 2012.”

Wetlands GSAM converted a dry basin into a wetlands area to help cleanse the storm water runoff before entering the streams and rivers. All native plants were used for this project Permeable pavers were used in the new parking lot on the hospital campus GSAM's Green Team organized a wetlands planting to mitigate storm water

Storm Water Credits The Village of Downers Grove encourages property owners to proactively manage storm water on their properties The village offers the following credits for the implementation of sustainable storm water management practices –Each credit is a reoccurring reduction on a facility's utility fees

Climate Overview Katie Wickman tracks GHG emissions in the Healthy Environment dashboard Types of emissions –Scope 1: All direct GHG emissions –Scope 2: Indirect GHG emissions from consumption of purchased electricity, heat or steam –Scope 3: Other indirect emissions, such as the extraction and production of purchased materials and fuels, transport-related activities in vehicles not owned or controlled by the reporting entity, etc.

Areas of Improvement GSAM’s energy reduction goal: reduce energy/SF by 2% each year –GSAM fell short this year –Silver lining: New bed tower construction project is consuming a significant amount of energy and is most likely skewing results

What Can We Do? Encourage a “culture of energy efficiency and sustainability” amongst your teams –Turn off lights in unoccupied areas –Turn off computers/put them in sleep mode whenever possible –Unplug non-clinical staff equipment (TV’s, coffee machines, microwaves, etc.) when not in use –Coach other associates on the benefits of recycling Owner versus renter mentality
