Balance Symmetrical Picture evenly divided into four parts. Easy to convey information. Contains a center. Cut in half and resembles opposite side.
Balance Asymmetrical Not centered. Main focus on right. Open space on left.
Rhythm Crayon is repeated over and over. Color changes, crayon remains same.
Proportion Complete contrast of size. Unrealistic. Ideal proportion of human. Not Ideal compared to hour glass.
Repetition and Variation Repetition – repeating object consistently Variation- repeating object different color, or size.
Elements of Design Part 2
Line Line: Distance between two points. Has length, position, and direction. Either Visible or invisible.
Shape Shape: occupies and defines negative/ positive space. Geometric: triangles, squares, circles Natural: animals, plants, humans Abstract: simplified versions of natural shapes
Color Color: hue of pigment or light Produced by subtraction or addition of colors. Tool for symbolism in communication.
Texture Texture: Look or feel of an object or surface. Either Visual or Tactile.
Space Space: Negative or positive space object occupies. White Space : space around object or text. Overlapping Elements Value : Lightness or Darkness of object.
Size Size: Objects compared to space they occupy. Big or Small, Wide or Tall. Function, Attractiveness, Organization.
