Our Trip to the Rain Forest By:Elizabeth, Megan, & Milan

What is a rain forest? The rain forest is a place that has a lot of plants and animals. It is also a place where it rains a lot.

Location of Rain Forests They are located in North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. There are none in Europe and Antarctica.

Emergent Layer There are harpy eagles, monkeys, sloths butterflies, flying squirrels, and pygmy gliders in the emergent layer. This is the highest layer of the rainforest.

Canopy Layer There are butterflies, spider monkeys, iguanas, ocelot, three-toed sloth, toucan, boa constrictors, bees, and lizards. This layer blocks most of the sunlight from the other layers.

Macaws Macaws can be many different colors like blue, red, green, and yellow. Some people think that they are beautiful. They also can be pets. There are so many names I can’t say them all.

Understory Layer Red-eyed tree frog, katydids, crickets, tree porcupines, geckos, parrots, squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and grasshoppers. This layer is hot and dark.

Forest Floor The forest floor has butterflies, milk snakes, anteaters, giant armadillos, and giant earthworms. During the winter rainy season, the forest floor gets covered up to the treetops with water.

Deforestation Deforestation is when some of the rain forest dies. It is when people kill the plants. The trees are going to be cut down to make a profit. Trees are used to make paper, firewood, roads, farms, ranches, and houses. The animals will lose oxygen.

People of the Rain Forest People use large leaves as umbrellas. Some people cut down the trees. They use the land for food. Some people take over the land.

In conclusion, we thought that our trip to the rain forest was very cool. The layers have a lot of animals. Deforestation is bad for the rain forest. The rainforest people shouldn’t cut down the trees.
