Natural Resources

A resource is something that provides energy to humans. Natural resources are resources provided to humans by nature.

Kinds of resources There are 2 kinds of resources: 1.Renewable resources 2.Non-renewable resources

Renewable resource All renewable resources come either directly or indirectly from the sun’s energy. A renewable resources is a resource that can be used forever. For example: 1.Wind 2.Water 3.Sunlight

Wind Wind can be converted into electricity using windmills. Wind is generated from differences in air pressure (caused by the sun).

Water Moving water can be converted into electricity by using dams. Moving water comes from the water cycle (caused by the sun)

Sunlight Sunlight can be converted into energy by using solar panels

Non-renewable resources Non-renewable resources are resources that once they are used, they will never be replaced. Three kinds of non-renewable resources are: 1.Coal 2.Oil 3.Natural Gas

Coal Coal is a sedimentary rock formed over millions of years in swampy regions The swampy regions gather decaying plants, turning them into peat, then compressing the peat into coal

Oil Oil forms from the remains of dead plants and animals at sea. Dead plants and animals fall to the bottom of the ocean, get buried quickly and overtime turn into crude oil.

Natural Gas Natural Gas is formed much the same way as oil, but usually deeper inside the earth and at greater temperatures, thus creating gas.

Estimates It is estimated there is enough coal to last about 250 years, natural gas for about 150 years and oil to last about 100 years. Once these are gone, they will never be replaced!!!!
