 Welcome and Introductions – Kerry Schuckman  Responsibilities of Professional Services Personnel – Andi Beckman, Kerry Schuckman, Mike Karl  Admission to Teacher Education – Andi Beckman, Kerry Schuckman  Field Experience and Student Teaching – Mike Karl  Licensure Information – Kerry Schuckman

 Andi Beckman, Sr. Administrative Assistant – reviews applications to teacher education and student teaching, analyzes transcripts and screens applications, communicates with candidates regarding their status  Kerry Schuckman, Licensure Officer - recommends program completers for licensure, advises on testing requirements, licensure requirements, contact for T2T program  Mike Karl, Director of Professional Services – arranges placements for student teachers and field experiences and T2T practicums

Requirements 2.75 cumulative GPA Candidates with bachelor’s degree… either cumulative 2.75 GPA or 2.75 on last 60 hours Negative result of Background check. Validity Screening Solutions or KS Emergency Sub License Negative result of TB skin test. Approval by COPTSP and approval from the candidate’s department and having met all departmental requirements. Introduction Video (new requirement in the future) Testing If no degree… must have PPST scores of Math 172, Writing 172, and Reading 173 OR have ACT scores of 22 in Math-Total Score, English-Total Score, and Reading-Total Score. PPST being discontinued – replaced with CASE test. Coursework Completed with a “C” or higher: English Composition I, English Composition II, Fundamentals of Oral Communication, College Algebra or higher, Elements of Statistics Completed with a “C” or higher: Foundations of Education, Human Growth and Development, Early Field Experience (secondary), Children’s Literature (elementary), Professional Practice and Observation (elementary)

Deadlines  No deadline for Application to Teacher Education (may change). Submit semester before wanting to take restricted classes.  February 15 and September 15 deadlines for student teaching the following semester.

Waivers – what’s missing?  Waiver allows candidate to take restricted classes for one semester while still having a deficiency.  Must apply by March 1 or October 1 the semester prior to wanting to take restricted classes.  Waivers will not be approved if there is more than one deficiency. For example, missing one part of PPST and low GPA, or two parts of PPST, or missing one class and one part of PPST.  Only 1 waiver will be allowed.

Information Flow (TK20) 1.Candidate completes Application to Teacher Education at tk20.fhsu.edu 2.Andi reviews application for completeness and checks deficiencies. Puts Comments on TK20/notifies applicant of any deficiencies. 3.Approval Sheet for applicant sent to advisor. 4.Department chair may want to review at department meeting to receive input from faculty. Input regarding dispositions or concerns sent to Andi for inputting in TK20 or advisor can input directly to TK20 - approval not to be based on GPA, course deficiencies, etc. 5.Department chair returns Approval Sheet to Andi. 6.Faculty can view candidate files in TK20 at any time.

 Application to Student Teaching – Andi ◦ Cumulative and major GPA’s 2.75 or higher ◦ All content and education coursework completed ◦ All waiver requirements met (testing, required courses, etc.)  Early Field Experience and Secondary School Experience process  Supervision of student teachers and T2T practicum candidates  Candidate evaluations

 Presentation to Foundations of Education classes (recorded for online classes) and Student Teaching classes  ETS Testing information/Dean’s Office pay for content testing for faculty  Standard of Excellence Certificate for FPA (new beginning Dec 2013)  Website: * Listing of all licensure programs/coursework * COPTSP meetings held monthly – Policies on web * Admission to Teacher Education requirements/Background check info * Admission to Student Teaching requirements * Initial Licensure requirements * Renewing a teaching license * Information about T2T program

Transition to Teaching (T2T) Program * Alternative path to licensure * Must hold bachelor’s degree or higher in a content area or have equivalent coursework * 2.75 GPA on last 60 hours * Passed content test for their teaching field * Hired at least half-time under contract in qualifying area * Hired in Kansas or Idaho * Pedagogy coursework is online - 4 day summer Induction 24 credit hours over 2 year period/can earn MSE * Restricted teaching license * FHSU has had over 350 T2T teachers since 2003 Fort Hays State University Transition to Teaching T2TT2T

TEACHING LICENSES 101  Initial License (2 yr), Professional License (5 yr), Restricted License (2 yr)  Initial License: have bachelor’s degree, complete teacher education program, pass content test, pass PLT test  Renewal of Licenses * must teach 1 year and be mentored professional license * Thereafter, 8 credit hours every 5 years or 160 in-service points OR if have master’s degree, 6 credit hours every 5 years or 120 in-service points. FHSU faculty follow same requirements.  Adding endorsements through testing
