Presentation transcript:

How Green are you? How many of you have left your phone chargers plugged in? How many of you haven't got any energy saving light bulbs in your house? How many of you don’t compost? Lastly, how many of you brushed your teeth this morning with the tap turned on?

Lower School: We have been investigating: Composting Recycling stamps/mobile phones Issues of chewing gum waste Food miles Climate Change Competition 2009 Recycling Christmas cards

Recycling Stamps Last term the Green Team decided to team up with a charity to recycle stamps. The money raised would go to the running costs of Naomi House, the children's hospice. L12 managed to get 439 stamps! If you do have any used stamps please drop them into Miss Noyes in H8. Don’t forget to take your old mobile phones to the main office for the same purpose!

Chewing Gum facts The Keep Britain Tidy Campaign says people in the UK consume 935 million packets of gum every year Each piece of gum costs 3p to buy but 10p to clean up Nine out of ten city paving stones have had gum stuck to them Removing gum off the pavement takes expensive jet sprays or chemical treatments In London there are over 300,000 blobs of chewing gum on Oxford Street alone The government spends £150m each year on cleaning up gum on the UK's streets Did you know Singapore banned chewing gum in 1992 because of a litter problem.

Gum dropping is the problem, the solution is in your hands

Sixth Form & Upper School: Investigating Energy KES Did you know the school spent £110,00 on heating and lighting during the school last year We have helped to raise awareness through IT: turning off computer screens Designing wrist bands & slogans Developing the school Green Team website Introduced Green Member of Staff award at the end of each month Increased membership to 24 Green Tip of the week found on the blue sheet
