THE END OF EDUCATION (AS WE KNOW IT!) DR. JOAN BREWER

INFORMATION WHERE WE WANT IT…WHEN WE WANT IT! In May 2005, Ellen Wagner, senior director of Global Education Solutions at Macromedia, proclaimed that the mobile revolution had finally arrived: Wherever one looks, evidence of mobile penetration is irrefutable: cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, portable game devices, handhelds, tablets, and laptops abound. No demographic is immune from this phenomenon. From toddlers to seniors, people are increasingly connected and are digitally communicating with each other in ways that would have been impossible only a few years ago. Source: Corbeil, J. R. & Valdes-Corbeil, M. E. (2007, November). Are you ready for mobile learning? EDUCAUSE Quarterly, 30.

…..THE PREVALENCE OF MOBILE LEARNING HAS GROWN EXPONENTIALLY SINCE 2005….. Bank accounts can be accessed from anywhere! Access to the Internet is no longer tethered to the phone line! Favorite television shows can be streamed on demand! Majors news has hit the masses before it ever appears on cable or in print!

TRANSITION IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY…..

MOBILE LEARNING + EDUCATION = POTENTIAL One hundred years ago, children traveled to schools to sit in rows and be instructed by a teacher. Today, they still do the same. Why? The world we once knew has changed, creating a unique opportunity to design learning differently. Global learning environments are a reality.
