MRS. BOLICK’S 4TH GRADE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION School lunch is $2.35 and free breakfast is available to all students. A NOTE IS REQUIRED TO EXCUSE ALL ABSENCES. Calls will no longer be taken in the office for afternoon travel changes. Please send a note with your child in the morning or Mrs. Bowles and Mrs. Peal with changes. Please adhere to the dress code and the tobacco free policy as stated in the student planner. School begins promptly at 8:05 am. I expect all students to be on time and ready to learn. School dismisses at 2:55 pm. Early arrivals before 7:30 am will not be permitted. At 7:30am, all students report to the cafeteria and are admitted to class at 7:45 am. Lunch may be prepaid on Monday. Please send in an envelope with students’ name on front. All students have new lunch cards this year. Voic – Calls from parents during the day will be sent to voic unless emergencies arise. Ellendale Car Tags – These must used and displayed until out of the parking lot

PARENT INVOLVEMENT I want our classroom to be one where parents are actively involved. Please feel free to come in and volunteer, or chaperone with our fieldtrips. You may send in a box of Kleenex, Clorox wipes, hard candy or prizes for our treasure box. One-on-one tutorials Come and eat lunch with us.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR My Belief: I will not allow any student to keep me from teaching or another student from learning. Misbehavior has no place in a learning environment. This year we will continue with our PBIS behavior model. We will be using the Clip Up/Clip Down Chart in our classroom.

CONSEQUENCES Clipping Down: 1 st time called down: warning 2 nd time called down: 5 minutes silent lunch 3 rd time called down: Parent Contact, conference, or teacher choice 4 th time called down: Office visit to Mrs. Mays Your child can clip up and if they reach blue on the behavior chart, a reward will be given. Each day is treated as a new beginning.

R EWARDS Free time at centers Movies/videos Homework Coupons Positive/Brag notes Ice cream party Special time with the teacher

H OMEWORK P OLICY My Belief: I believe that for student learning to be at the maximum, work at home must be done. Your child will be assigned homework each night except for Fridays and other weekend nights. Spellings words will need to be studied nightly. Vocabulary words will be defined and will be tested on Thursday. These will be words that go along with our reading stories or other curriculum areas. Study guides/reviews for tests will be sent home. Each night the student planner must be signed indicating that homework is complete and that 15 minutes of reading has been completed, along with the reading log.

H OMEWORK P OLICY ( CONT.) Different nights may have more or less homework. The key will be for your child to use their time wisely in class to avoid having a tremendous amount of homework. If you have any concerns about homework, please contact me. I expect all homework to be completed neatly and ready to turn in the following day. 15 minutes of reading is required each night (Mon.-Thurs.). This can be a reading counts book or another literature source that is on your child’s reading level. Reading logs must be completed. A chart will be used to keep track of assignments that are and aren’t turned in Newsletters will be sent home every two weeks. Reminders of things will be sent home weekly if needed. Always check homework folders.

S UBJECT R OTATIONS In response to the changes in our national and state curriculum, we will be integrating many of our social studies/and science goals into our literature studies. All students will be placed in a reading group that meets his/her instructional needs. Students will have one 4 th grade teacher for their reading instruction. This may or may not be their homeroom teacher. Our literacy groups will start this week or the next week depending on when we can get SRI scores. The first and second weeks will be for assessing and determining schedules. Students will also rotate to Mrs. Mayberry for S.S and Mrs. Sprinkle for a extra math. I will be teaching Science. They will remain in their homeroom for math.

S PECIALS This year we will operate on a 6 day rotation. Always refer to the calendar sent home. Day 1 – PE Day 2 – Media Day 3 – Music/Enrichments Day 4 – Guidance Day 5 – PE Day 6 - Media Lunch is from 11:25-11:55 am. Recess 11:55-12:25 pm

As your child’s teacher, I will do the best job that I can. If you have any problems, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me. I ask that you call after 2:55, but if you need to talk and it can’t wait, then please call anytime. If you need to come in and have a conference with me, I will be glad to work it out. Also, you can leave me a voic or send a note with your child to give to me. School Number: While we try to teach our children all about life, Our children teach us what life is all about. ~Angela Schwindt
