New ways to connect with your elected officials Taking action on the new platforms

Taking Action: 2) Clicking the Take Action link in an will redirect your to the Grassroots Action Center on the CFAHC website. Input your information and click Preview .

Taking Action: 3) We ask that you please take a moment to personalize the pre- filled message; it is much more effective and impactful than just sending the standard language. When you’re ready, click Send s.

Taking Action: 4) You’ll notice that the icon is marked as completed, and you can now move on to Twitter.

Taking Action: Twitter 1) Your information should be saved from the previous screen, so all you need to do is click Find Legislators.

Taking Action: Twitter 2) Review the message and click Post Tweets.

Taking Action: Twitter 3) The Twitter icon is now marked as completed. Here is how your post will look on your Twitter feed.

Taking Action: Facebook 1) Like with Twitter, your information should be saved for the Facebook step, so just click Find Legislators.

Taking Action: Facebook 2) For Facebook, you’ll either need to copy and paste NACHC message (highlighted at left) and copy/paste into the text box OR draft your own message. When ready, click Post Now.

Taking Action: Facebook 3) Once you’ve completed all the steps, a thank you message will appear at the top of the screen. Here’s how your post will look on your MOC’s Facebook page.

Taking Action: Click-to-Call 1) When NACHC launches a campaign that needs you to call your Members of Congress directly, you will also see a phone icon at the top of the screen. Your phone number should be pre- populated from the previous screens, so simply clicking the link will prompt the system to call your phone and patch you through to your Members of Congress.

Taking Action: Click-to-Call 3) You’re done! You can now share with your Facebook and Twitter networks and encourage others to take action. 2) The call comes directly to your phone. Answer, and you will be connected to MOC offices one by one.

Using the new platforms to amplify the health center voice online The importance of social media in an age of digital advocacy

Social Media for Advocacy “Social media is a conversation not a monologue.” With creativity, persistence social media is a tremendous tool for engaging legislators and influencing support of the Health Center movement. Think about it… 100% of the Senate is active on Facebook or Twitter 97% of the House is active on Facebook or Twitter More than 75% of Congressional staffers "agree" or "strongly agree" with the statement "social media enabled us to have more meaningful interactions with constituents."

How To… Facebook Keep Facebook posts short and conversational, and include an image whenever possible. The most effective way to utilize your Facebook account is to post regularly. A general rule to follow could be to post at least one Facebook post a day. Ask people to share your content through Facebook. Include links on Facebook to direct people back to your website or CFAHC Share content from the CFAHC Facebook page Tag your MOC when you are posting about Health Center investment stories Twitter Share links to op-eds/ LTEs, images from events, and other information in 140 characters or less. Tweet directly to MOCs, media outlets, etc. to spark conversation about your health center. Tweet at least 2-4 times per day Tweet directly to members of Congress with the action you want them to take or to say thank you. Use the #AccessistheAnswer hashtag. Retweet content

Influencing Legislators: Cheap & Easy A regular citizen can start a policy conversation with almost half of Congress right now, simply by going to their Facebook or Twitter page and asking a question. 84% Senators and Representatives are more inclined to use social media than they were in the past. 76% Staff generally feel social media have improved relationships between constituents and Congress. Thirty or fewer similar comments on a social media post are enough to get an office’s attention, but they need to be posted quickly or they may not be seen. Social media posts by constituents can influence undecided Senators and Representatives, but staff generally do not feel social media posts provide enough information to identify constituents.

Social Media Sharing

1.Find the right person 2.Create/execute a feasible plan 3.Make social media measurable or a part of your overall organizational strategy Developing Social Media Strategy
