THE ‘BREAD’ THAT SUSTAINS SPIRITUAL LIFE John 6:29-59

Jesus revealed himself in many ways

BREAD IS THE STAFF OF LIFE Bread is essential in our daily diet. –It contains essential nutrients –It is a complete source of nourishment. When bread is neglected diseases can occur.

Jesus said, "...It is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven." – v 32c I Am the Bread of Life – 6:35

Our tendency is to neglect or modify bread. When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. – Pro 23:1-3

BREAD IS A PRODUCT OF A PROCESS

The kernel must "fall into the ground and die" Death & Resurrection

There must be a grinding process Suffering

There must be a baking process The furnace of affliction Finally the breaking

THIS BREAD IS LIFE INSURANCE If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." –6:51

Partaking is… Not tied to Communion. –He tied it to Himself. a present tense feasting. –eats and continues to eat. Insurance –he will live forever a Gift to be received –This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. –Mt 6:9-13 (NIV)
