Morning Break Children are allowed to bring a piece of fruit/ vegetable i.e. a small apple, orange, (peeled), small bunch of grapes, carrot sticks or grapes. NB. No fruit winders, cereal bars, malt loaf, fruit flakes or Frubes please. We encourage “Water on Desks” where each child must bring a clear plastic bottle with a pull up top. Please do not put these in the child’s reading bag! Please ensure that the bottle is named and contains water NOT squash or juice. Lunchtime - Children are able to bring their own packed lunch or have a cooked meal from the canteen. Please ensure correct money is placed in your child’s named purse each day. BC

~ Children will bring home a reading book in a folder clearly marked with their “changing day”. ~ Parents are asked to read with their children for 10/15 minutes per night x 5 weekly to develop fluency, understanding and a love of reading. ~ Please ensure that the reading folder is in school on the correct day for changing and there is a comment in the reading diary for the class teacher. ~ Should children be absent on “changing day” please send the folder in to school the next day. WOW words! Children will also bring home WOW words (Words Of the Week) which will be high frequency words which the children will need to be able to both read and write (e.g. mum, like, the, come). Please encourage your child to read and write these words regularly and within simple sentences when appropriate. NG

Home Learning Your child will bring home learning home on a Friday. This will link in with some of the learning that has taken place in the classroom that week and also reinforce focus maths, sounds and WOW word learning. Please return home learning folders by the following Wednesday. Please complete home learning with your child and practise and encourage correct pencil grip when writing. Ensure that your child writes their name on every sheet please. NG

Clothes Please ensure that all clothes, shoes and bags are labelled, including coats. Please could you also check periodically that the names are still in tact. Physical Development Children participate in indoor gymnastics and dance and also outdoor games and adventurous play activities. Indoors the children will be expected to wear tee shirts and pants and have bare feet. The children wear black/navy jogging bottoms and daps or trainers for outdoor PD sessions (all named in a named PE bag please). JR

Outdoor Learning As part of the Foundation Phase, much of our learning takes place outdoors and the children will spend part of every day outside. We will provide your children with waterproof clothing, but we ask if you could send in a pair of labelled wellingtons – the more distinctive the better! These are to remain in school. Your child may come home muddy but definitely happy! (Thanks for all wellies received so far!) JR
