Welsh Health Survey The Welsh Health Survey (WHS) provides unique information about the health and health-related lifestyle of people living in Wales. Covers a range of health-related issues including health status, lifestyle and health behaviours, and use of health services survey included 14,000 adults/3,000 children Enables results down to local authority (using 2 years of pooled data) and lower by combining more years

Results on housing/health Colleagues in PHW recently produced evidence paper on housing/health (here)here “…. whilst cross-sectional studies have identified associations between housing and health outcomes, those living in poor housing are also those most likely to be living in poverty and suffering from long-term illnesses, and it is therefore difficult to know the nature of the association (Thomson, 2011). To establish a causal relationship between housing and health requires evaluations of intervention studies, and these studies are less commonly conducted. The evidence presented [below] consists of evidence from systematic reviews which have identified and appraised intervention studies, however evidence from cross-sectional studies, relating to associations between housing and health, is also included.”

Changes to the WHS/future surveys Single survey bringing together the National Survey for Wales, the Welsh Health Survey, the Arts in Wales Survey, Active Adults Survey and the Welsh Outdoor Recreation Survey. Doing this brings the most benefits in terms of efficiencies and resource savings as well as providing a platform for a more flexible and integrated approach for the future. Sample size of 12,000 adults (16+) Field work starts in 16-17, first results due May/June 2017.

House conditions survey The last property survey in Wales was in This was undertaken as part of the Living in Wales survey, and the property survey involved qualified surveyors visiting some 2,700 addresses that had participated in the main Living in Wales household survey. Wales only nation without a routine house condition survey The 2015/16 KAS evidence plan set out that one of the priorities for housing was to investigate approaches to improving the evidence for housing conditions in Wales.

Linking data In 2013 a Data Linking Demonstration Project - Examining Fuel Poverty using Home Energy Efficiency Data (HEED) and Routinely Collected Health Data was published.
