Domestic uses of water in Papua New Guinea By Ian Kiriavi Grade 7 HOPIS WORLD WATER DAY 2016

INTRODUCTION In Papua New Guinea there are many ways in which water is used. One important way is the domestic use of water were it is used in homes or households and villages. In this report I am going to write about how water is used in Papua New Guinea domestically.

Water for drinking. In PNG people use water for drinking but it also has a different side. Some people live in places that clean water cannot be found so they use rivers, lakes and water wells. Sometimes rivers flood which makes the water dirty. Human pollution also makes the water dirty for human beings to drink. But there are ways that people can get clean water. For example, using a container to pour water up to 5 mills then using 5 mills of bleach to poor into the container then mix it and leave it to settle then they have clean water to drink.

Water is used for cooking. People in PNG use water for cooking like boiling with coconut cream while some people use other ways of cooking. But, cooking with water has its own effects like, people have to walk some minutes to get their cooking water. But, there are ways that people can use to get cooking water easily like buying a water pump or making a water well. In that way, they can get cooking water easily and also it helps the children or parents who go to work or school get cooking water easily.

Water helps people make money. People in PNG use water for fishing and other activities. Some people live in the village next to the sea, big rivers, lakes and ponds so they use them for fishing. After that, they take the fish they caught to the market and sell them to get money to make their lives easier.

CONCLUSION That is how water is used domestically in Papua New Guinea.
