Reducing Gender Inequalities: Raising the global GDP by educating women Professor Mazzucelli Zoila Acevedo Global Civil Society

“The decreased ability of nationally based political systems to manage the world’s problems on a global scale has induced the rise of a global civil society.” -Manuel Castells

Global Issue: Gender inequality “70% of people in poverty are women.” (PCI) “ Economic disparities persist partly because much of the unpaid work within families and communities falls on the shoulders of women and because they face discrimination in the economic sphere.” (UNFPA)

According to the World Bank, “Putting resources into poor women’s hands while promoting gender equality in the household and in society results in large development payoffs. Expanding women’s opportunities in public works, agriculture, finance, and other sectors accelerates economic growth, helping to mitigate the effects of current and future financial crises.” (World Bank 2011) Womenomics: Employment of women can play an important in contributing to economic role.
