Industrial based PhD 5  Industry based PhD Programme or Industrial PhD is an alternative to the conventional PhD.  To promote knowledge sharing between industry players and academicians in producing highly knowledgeable and competent professionals.  Suited to the needs of the industry and providing a more practical oriented doctorate.  Highly flexible and able to accommodate candidates from all levels of management.  Candidates have the opportunity to spend most of their time doing research at their own organizations.

INDUSTRIAL based PhD in UTM Research at student workplace. The topic and scope based on real problems at student workplace, problems related to their jobs and in their respective field of specialization. Research projects which have the potential in improving the operations, services and management of the company. Conferment of the PhD is subject to fulfilment of the existing UTM rules and regulations related to postgraduate studies.

Role of University and Industry ROLE OF UNIVERSITY Identify Academic Supervisor Provide accredited quality academic program Provide necessary training i.e. coursework, research skills training and supervision while the project is conducted in the industry. ROLE OF INDUSTRY Identify projects in the industry. Ensuring continuous commitment of the industry and the candidate for the project sustainability. Provide resources for the Research, and Provide an Industry Supervisor for the student.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME 11  Full-time Programme - working in their respective organizations while pursuing their PhD degree.  Students are given a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years to complete the Industrial PhD Programme.  Early completion can be considered with some impact factor publications.

SUPERVISION Each student will be assigned to a minimum of two supervisors; One from university. One from the organization/industry who has substantial experience or expertise in the relevant areas of the research topic. Supervision and monitoring processes are the responsibility of the supervisors. Supervision and thesis evaluation practices are similar to those designed for the conventional PhD program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT To be eligible for admission by the University (UTM), an applicant must hold: Master degree from UTM or other higher learning institution recognized by the Senate Candidates must be currently an employee in a private company in Malaysia Working experience in the related field of more than 3 years Candidates must be a Malaysian citizen No age limit 13
