Local and State Deaf Groups 1/19/16 1

Local Groups Elkins ASL Club Houston Deaf Network DARS- DHHS DHHS- BEI TXAD 2

Your assignment… Make a decorative flyer of the information and be ready to present what you learned. In groups of three (which I will assign), look up one of the local groups and determine some important information about it. Make a decorative flyer of the information and be ready to present what you learned. For instance, what is their purpose? Who are their members? Does their group name have an acronym, and if so, what does it stand for? What information do they have? Do they have meetings? Where are they located? What kind of activities do they have? Etc. 3

Elkins ASL Club Purpose: to allow ASL students an opportunity to meet together, play games, and promote awareness of ASL and the Deaf community. Activities: Deaf socials at Chick-Fil-A, Silent Brunch at IHOP, Video holiday card for the Deaf co-op. Meets once a month on Wednesday afternoons. Officers meet the day before. This is a very brief example. There is a lot more to say about the other local groups than Elkins ASL Club. Be prepared to present at the end of class tomorrow. You have a test on Friday, so also be brushing up on your emotion and feelings vocabulary, as well as your storytelling techniques notes. 4
