Presentation transcript:

I can apply grammar skills. I can describe how archetypal images are used in literature. I can apply before, during, and after reading strategies to increase comprehension of increasingly challenging text. I can write an essay.

 Complete the grammar check.  Circle the correct answer.  Choice 1=A  Choice 2=B  Enter the answers into the clickers.

 Finish reading section 1 (pages 3-25)  Answer the questions  In order to study for the test, you will be responsible for keeping up with all your work with The Alchemist unit.

 With a small group discuss the answers to the questions. Decide with your group, which member answers the question most fluently and correctly. Be ready to discuss with the class.

Where is Santiago on the wheel? Discuss with an elbow partner. Be ready to discuss whole group.

Read pages and answer the questions. If you do not finish the work in class, you must finish at home. There is a PDF of the book on the webpage as well as the questions. In order to study for the test, you will be responsible for keeping up with all your work with The Alchemist unit.

 Many successful adults recall a time in life when they were considered a failure at one pursuit or another. Some of these people feel strongly that their previous failures taught them valuable lessons and led to their later successes. Others maintain that they went on to achieve success for entirely different reasons. In your opinion, can failure lead to success? Or is failure simply its own experience? In your essay, take a position on this question. You may write about either one of the two points of view given, or you may present a different point of view. Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.  I am looking for: organization (intro, body, conclusion, transition words) and strong claims for each body!
