HOW? By offering some predetermined pathway courses and elective courses in the pathway program students will achieve advance standing in first semester courses which will result in a reduced workload in semesters 1 and 2 in their programs at GBC.
GBC SAVES SPOTS IN THEIR PROGRAM FOR YORKDALE AND CALC STUDENTS! The Pathway Program articulates* directly into first semester at GBC without students having to compete with the approximately 10,000 applicants that apply each semester at GBC Yorkdale has 20 Seats
The Pathway to Health Sciences Program at YALC Students will study: Anatomy Chemistry Healthcare/(Math – 80% pass mark)* Lifespan Development* Nutrition* Speaking with Confidence* All courses have a 60% pass mark *These courses qualify for advanced standing electives for semesters 1 and 2 at GBC
The Program Successful completion of the Pathway Program at YALC leads to advanced standing placement in semester
In 1st semester at YALC, you can earn 6 credits toward your high school diploma Upon successful completion of the first semester, you move on to George Brown College to complete your studies

Prior to Interview Date… Complete an “Education Document Check” with a Student Services counsellor Bring in the following to Student Services prior to your interview on Wednesday June 8, 2016 between 8:30am – 2:00pm Transcripts/Educational documents from: the last Ontario high school you attended any post secondary institution you have attended Canadian Status Documents
Bring to the Interview Education Document Check (completed Prior to testing date) One of: Canadian Birth certificate or Canadian Passport or Canadian Citizenship card Landed Immigrant Paper or Permanent Resident Card “Notice of Decision” letter designating you as a Convention Refugee and a Study Permit valid June 2016 N.B.Refugee claimants are not allowed to write the admission test at Yorkdale Pen/Pencils Note: You must show some photo ID

Interview
15 to 20 minutes with a Yorkdale staff member Assessing comprehension, critical thinking and communication skills Bring: a resume a professional attitude Punctuality will be observed
The Writing Sample examines the candidate’s ability: to write a supported opinion essay on a topic related to nursing. Candidates will be expected to produce: an organized, thoughtful essay with few mechanical errors. 1 full page of writing - 5 paragraphs 45 minutes is allowed for the Writing component.
Sample: In your opinion, what makes the field of health care a rewarding career choice? Give three specific examples to illustrate your opinion.
Step 1 Ensure you have the prerequisites: English 4C or 4U - 70% Math4C/U or 3M/U – 70% Biology3 or 4 C or U – 70% Chemistry 3 or 4 C or U – 70%
Step 2 Have all education documents and citizenship documents checked before June 8, 2016 Interview on June 8, 2016 at assigned interview and writing sample appointment. Approximately 2 hours are required BRING these originals to the testing: Educational Document check (signed by a counsellor at YALC) citizenship/landed status/convention refugee documents with study permit Pen Resume Complete a registration form with: Address, telephone #, address, emergency name and number
Step 4 Selection will be based on your writing sample and interview results and transcripts. Acceptance/rejection s will be sent after all evaluations are completed Unsuccessful candidates will be sent an and given information regarding upgrading opportunities Students requiring upgrading are invited to register for academic courses on August 29, 2016 The decision of the selection committee is final!!!!!
Step 5 Successful candidates must confirm their acceptance. If you do not confirm your acceptance your place may be given to someone on the wait list. Students must pay the registration fee of $ at the orientation session in January. Yorkdale registration fee of $40.00, and refundable book deposit of $ Debit or Credit only. No cash
Students Selected for the Program Orientation packages will be given out at registration and will contain the following: Textbooks Timetable Book requirements etc
Classes are held Monday to Friday 8:15 am – 3:30 pm Full time attendance is mandatory for success in the program Program is completed in June for admission to GBC in September 2016 The first instructional day is: Thursday September 1, 2016
