Recommended Graduation Plan 26 Credits  English Credits  Math – 4.0 Credits  Science – 4.0 Credits  Social Studies/History – 4.0 Credits  Technology – 1.0 Credit  Fine Arts – 1.0 Credit  PE Credits  Health -.5 Credit  Communication Applications (Speech) -.5 Credit  Electives – 4.0 Credits

Distinguished Achievement Plan--DAP Requirements: Foreign Language credit and 4 Advanced Measures (to include AP, Dual Credit, and GT Independent Study courses)

End Of Course Exams you must pass before graduation: End Of Course Exams:  English 1  English 2  Biology  Algebra 1  US History Students who earned credit for any of the above listed courses at an accredited school outside of Texas or at an accredited private school in El Paso, prior to enrolling in EPISD do not have to take the STARR EOC tests in those subjects.

AP/Pre-AP vs. Dual Credit  The decision should be primarily based on where you are planning to attend college.  Colleges always look for strength of schedule.

AP vs. Dual Credit AP  AP classes ALWAYS count as HS credit.  Classes are taken on the FHS Campus.  College level coursework with an AP exam that could potentially earn college credit.  Acceptance of credit nationwide is based on the individual University. Typically a score of 3 or higher is required to earn credit. Student must contact college to verify acceptance.  Open enrollment  Students must pay to take the AP exam. (Fee is much less if you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch.) Dual Credit  Check with your chosen college to see if the DC course counts as the named HS course or as an elective.  Classes are taken on the FHS Campus.  Coursework will transfer to most Texas public universities with a grade of “C” or better. Coursework might transfer to other Universities. Student must contact college to verify acceptance.  Students must meet TSI (college readiness) standards to enroll.  Tuition is free.

CCTE Courses  Courses are held at CCTE and transportation is provided.  Most courses meet every other day, morning or afternoon.  Health Sciences, Cosmetology, Nail Tech, and Auto Tech meet daily.  Vet Tech and Health Science- 90 G.P.A to be accepted to program

Time to select courses… On the Pre-registration form:  Select 8 Courses Make sure you are registering for courses that meet your graduation requirements.  3 Alternate courses

Math 4 credits  Algebra I or PAP Algebra I  Geometry or PAP Geometry  Algebra 2 or PAP Algebra 2  Pre-Calculus, PAP Pre- Calculus, or Discrete Math,  AP Calculus AB (single block)  AP Calculus BC (double block)

Science 4 credits  Biology or PAP Biology  Chemistry or PAP Chemistry  Physics or AP Physics1  1 Advanced Science course

Social Studies 4 credits  World Geography or AP Human Geography  World History or AP World History  U.S. History, Dual Credit U.S History or AP U.S. History  Economics or AP Economics  Government or AP Government (AP Comparative Government recommended along with AP class)

Foreign Language 2 credits  Spanish 1 and 2  French 1 and 2  German 1 and 2  Must be 2 years of the same language

Fine Arts (1.0 credit)  Art  AP Art History  Band and Marching Band  Choir  Principles of Dance  Ballroom Dance  Guitar  Orchestra  Piano  Theater  Technical Theatre  Must be 1.0 credit in the SAME genre

P.E. 1 credit  PE Aerobics  PE Individual Sports  Major Sports-Coach approved. Most of these are double-blocked.  Air Force JROTC  Marching Band  Any combination of these courses

Technology 1 credit  Accounting 1 (BIM is recommended pre- requisite)  Architectural Design  Business Info. Mgt. (BIM)  Concepts of Engineering and Technology (STEM)  Digital Interactive Media  Digital Design and Media Production  Interior Design  Engineering Design & Presentation Must be 1.0 credit of the SAME course

Speech Communication Applications.5 credit.5 Credit AND

Gifted and Talented Independent Study Class  Students work with community mentors to plan and carry out a project of their choosing.  Students must be designated GT  Counts as an elective  Adds points to the GPA similar to AP or DC classes  If you are not already in the GT program and would like to be, you can request to be tested to see if you qualify.

Start thinking about college…  Visit the Go Center to find out about different colleges.  Junior year is a good time for college visits.  Explore the websites of your chosen colleges for important high school information.  The PSAT is a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This contest awards more scholarships than any other.

Take the SAT and/or ACT New SAT (Spring 2016)  Sections: math, evidence- based reading and writing, optional essay  Emphasis on reasoning  Emphasis on the meaning of words in context  Scores range from 400 to Essay results reported separated.  ACT  Sections: math, reading, science, English, writing  Measures academic achievement in 5 subject areas  Score on each section ranges from The composite score is an average of the section scores. 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE? Discover your true abilities and interests, and learn good career ideas.  April 6, 1:00  Room M110  During Parent-Teacher Conferences  Get info and sign up in the Counselor’s Office by March 24.  This is administered by the military but is not at all tied to recruitment.

Top 10% Rule Students who graduate in the top ten percent of their graduating class are eligible for admission to any public college or university in Texas. *Exception UT Austin admits top 7%
