JUNIOR YEAR

 English4 credits  Math3 credits  Science3 credits  Social Studies3 credits  Physical Education1 ½ credits  Financial Literacy ½ credit  Electives10 credits  Civics Exam  Health (must take in HS, if didn’t pass in middle school)  TOTAL25 credits MINIMUM  All students are required to take a minimum of 6 credits per school year, although 7 credits is recommended.  Keep track of what you need to graduate!

 REQUIRED ENGLISH COURSES: (4) credits  Composition½ credit  Communications½ credit  You must take both of these courses your junior year. It is currently in your schedule for next year. Taking additional English classes as you wish is acceptable for next year.

 Be sure to check the prerequisites!!!!  Talk with your math teacher is you are unsure of what class to take.  All students must pass 3 years of math to graduate  If you are attending college or technical college, check the admission requirements for math.  Most universities require (3) years of higher level math for admissions (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and higher

 Must pass a minimum of 3 credits to graduate from MHS  Agriculture classes cross walking for Science credit, please check the course catalog  Most universities require 3 credits for admission, check their requirements!

 Students take (3) courses to earn 1 ½ credits of PE to meet graduation requirements. High School students may substitute participation in athletic co-curricular activities for one-half (1/2) credit of the 1 ½ credits PE required for graduation. Students who substitute athletic co- curricular participation must complete an additional ½ elective credit of English, math, social studies, science or health education course that is not otherwise required for graduation.  Other requirements will need to be met

 Financial Literacy is a graduation requirement  ½ credit of Personal Finance Management  MUST BE TAKEN FOR GRADUATION!  Can be taken your junior or senior year

Students may want to retake a course to learn at a deeper level to prepare for future coursework, improve one’s gpa for college admission, increase chances on acquiring a scholarship or simply to acquire the maximum gpa one can earn. The decision to retake a course is an important decision and requires a parent meeting with school personnel prior to the second enrollment. Any course to be retaken must be done so within the next school year. All courses taken will be recorded on the student transcript. The letter “R” will replace the lower grade and have no value in calculating one’s gpa or class rank.

WAYS TO EARN COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE YOU ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL

 Prerequisite: Prior approval of principal  AP courses are taught in high school for high school credit. Upon completion of the course, students may choose to take the Advanced Placement test, which is given in the spring of each school year.  The cost of each test is the student’s responsibility.  The amount of college credits earned is dependent upon the individual college or university

 AP Literature and Composition  AP United States History  AP Calculus AB  AP Biology

 Moraine Park Technical College courses taught at MPTC using the technical college curriculum and books.  MHS teachers or MPTC instructor will teach the course.  Earn both high school and technical college credit.  Credits are transferable within the Technical College System.  If a student enrolls at MPTC, they will not have to retake the MPTC course they received high school credit for.  Universities may or may not accept the credits, check on Transfer Agreement System (TIS)

 Transcripted credits is an opportunity to take Moraine Park Technical College courses that are taught using technical college curriculum and books.  Students can earn both technical college credit and MHS credit.  Requires students to earn a “C” or higher toward college program requirements.  See all transcripted course offerings on page 4 of the MHS course catalog. Which also includes UW Oshkosh and PLTW (Project Lead the Way)

 Opportunity for 11 th and 12 th graders to earn college credit while in high school as long as the school doesn’t offer a comparable course. Students interested in this program must apply by March 1 st for the fall courses and October 1 st for the spring courses.  Students can take no more than 18 credits.  Courses must get BOE approval.  Successful completion of course will earn ¼ credit for every 1 credit of college work.  Must submit form PI-700A and submit by the deadline.

 CAPP at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh provides academically able high school students to earn college credits while in high school. Must meet certain requirements and pay a fee for tuition  (see course catalog)  It’s available for all juniors and seniors to take for high school credit.  Introduction to Business 1983 college credits

 MAYVILLE HIGH SCHOOL  Thurday, April 14, pm – 7:45pm  Open house format: Come and talk to teachers about their course offerings and any questions you may have for next year (e.g. What math class should I take…, What will we do in welding?)  MPTC, Marian University and UW Fond du Lac will be here with information tables.

 New beginning this year, students will be able to take courses in the summer to allow them more flexibility in their schedules throughout high school.  2016 Summer School Courses:  Physical Education ½ credit  World History S1 ½ credit  US History S1 ½ credit  Personal Financial Management ½ credit  *Must be the first time taking the course.

 Beginning today you can put your requests into SKYWARD!  Course requests must be completed by Tuesday, April 19, 2016  Make sure you check all of your requirements for graduation. You must take a minimum of 6 credits and a maximum of 8 credits.

 All UW System Schools require the minimum of 17 high school credits:  4 credits of English  3 credits of Math  3 credits of Social Studies  3 credit of Natural Science  4 credits of Electives  (UW-Madison requires a minimum of 2 years of a single foreign language)  (UW-Platteville, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Parkside required 2 years of a foreign language to graduate)

 Come tomorrow night and learn about the courses you want to take from your teachers.  Talk to your parents about your course selection sheet.  Input your selections into Skyward.  Complete the process by Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
