YIACS? The model of delivery at No Limits is described as a YIACS Every YIACS, be it ours in Southampton, or another you may be working closely with in another part of the county, will… Offer a range of interventions ‘under one roof’ Be young person centred Be open to a wide age range, e.g. 13 to 25 encompassing transition Have a holistic approach, meeting multiple and complex needs Consist of multi-disciplinary teams, providing wrap-around support Offer flexible access routes, including through open door ‘drop-in’ sessions Be free, independent and confidential Counselling sits at the core of delivery – common thread sitting alongside all other services – is universal At No Limits our counselling service offers support to YP experiencing a range of emotional wellbeing and mental health issues – we work in schools, from our drop-ins and have previously supported YP in GP surgeries… 2

What’s on offer… Range of services to support many aspects of emotional and practical need –drop-in (welfare rights, support, advice, sexual health including pregnancy testing and chlamydia screening, debt advice, referral to other agencies, support with looking for work etc.) –school-based services (H&W, HeadStart, SHA) –case-holding (housing and floating support, advocacy, DASH substance, care leavers, carers, young offenders support) –emotional wellbeing (counselling, Teen and Big safe house, therapeutic groups) –Breakout LGBT Easy to access, non-stigmatising, welcoming, consistent – drop-in open 40+ hours over 6 days – many services offering late evenings to suit YP Onward referral and signposting Partnership work with professionals in health, education, social care, voluntary sector Confidentiality Feedback on service experience – ask YP what they think - responsive Online and telephone support for those YP who find it difficult to access face-to-face 3

Drop-in Open Monday to Saturday Two late evenings No appointment necessary to speak with a youth worker Readily available support with welfare rights including debt, issues with benefits, work etc. Support and advice on range of generic issues e.g. issues at school, with friends, with family In-depth support by appointment on specific issues e.g. debt resolution, referrals to supported housing Support for homeless young people including laundry and shower facilities Sexual health Work Club Access to specialist services including counselling, substance service Referral to other agencies e.g. Prince’s Trust SCRATCH food parcels Warm and welcoming 4

In schools… HeadStart –School counselling –4 schools at present (potential expansion) –6 weeks of counselling (per half term) – realistically much more flexible –Referrals decided by school – currently no set criteria though would be working towards this –Evidence base to support intervention –Work in partnership with other HeadStart providers 6

In schools… Southampton Healthy Ambition –Solent NHS Trust provides the school nursing service in partnership with No Limits. This service offers children and young people support to improve attendance, attainment and enhance their engagement in education –Emotional Health and Wellbeing service provides secondary schools and colleges Emotional Health and Wellbeing Worker (EHWB). Workers accept referrals for children aged from teachers, school nurses and also self-referrals. This service is available term-time only –EHWB workers Work with school nurse team to coordinate/deliver emotional health and wellbeing services to children and young people. Includes assessment, referral and undertaking brief interventions either 1:1 or in groups through education settings. Refer to other services e.g. CAMHS, DASH Deliver sessions to groups and individuals on a range of healthy behaviours e.g. emotional health, self-esteem, smoking cessation, healthy eating, wellbeing, health related school attendance issues, sexual health and relationships and other lifestyle related matters Deliver interventions to meet the needs of the school or college population Provide quality up to date information, advice and support which supports children and young people’s emotional health, personal and social development and promotes healthy lifestyles in schools and colleges –Holly Wells – Chamberlayne, Oasis Mayfield, Sholing Technology College, Itchen College. –Hayley Young - Upper Shirley High, Regents Park, Redbridge, Compass. –Kelly Somerville - Oasis Lordshill, City College, Richard Taunton’s College, Cantell –Rebecca Day – Woodlands, Bitterne Park, St Georges 7

In schools… Health and Wellbeing –Open access service for all CYP attending school. Support CYP with range of issues e.g. exam stress, issues with drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, sexual health, social isolation, anxiety, bullying or anything affecting their emotional health and wellbeing –The H&W drop-ins run in partnership with the local contraception and sexual advice service to provide CYP expert advice and support regarding sexual health. –Through campaigns, awareness events and national themes we promote issues to YP allowing them a safe space to access information, support and guidance on range of topics –CYP are supported through one point of contact to access a range of services and referral routes. H&W drop-ins have the ability to hold young people offering consistent, regular support whilst they are waiting for more specialist support –Often the presenting issue is not the issue that the CYP end up accessing support for and is often an piece of a much larger picture –Through H&W No Limits staff can advocate for CYP with family and within the school supporting them to share and talk about what is affecting them –We work very closely with the schools, although offer an independent service meaning that CYP can access support without worrying whether what they have discussed will impact their studies. Safeguarding CYP is paramount and we work with schools to ensure the safety of all pupils and will always share necessary information –BUZZ is an exciting project aimed at year olds who live / study in Southampton. The aim is to educate YP about risks and dangers associated with drug / alcohol misuse. Sessions are fun, informative and effective in getting across the message surrounding the risks. They are thought-provoking and encourage YP to make better informed decisions. Delivered by Early Help team – specialists in brief and early intervention work –PSHE workshops designed to support existing PSHE in school. Workshops range from drugs, alcohol, sex and relationships (Girl Talk Boy Talk), bullying, anxiety and anger management. Offer engaging educational activities allowing for interactive learning within the classroom. Workshops and lessons are tailored to the requirements of the school and CYP needs 8
