Targeted Nanodiamond Imaging and Therapy Dean Ho, University of California-Los Angeles, DMR This work demonstrated the synthesis of a self-assembled nanodiamond-lipid complex (NDLP). -The NDLP was bound to an EGFR antibody targeting agent that markedly improved delivery specificity and comprehensively characterized. -(Top) In vitro targeting was demonstrated by the increased green fluorescence from the labeled nanodiamonds in the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line which overexpresses the EGFR receptor. Studies were compared against the wild-type MCF-7 breast cancer line that does not overexpress EGFR. -(Bottom) Tumor regression was observed to the point of the breast tumors no longer being visible which was an important advance. This study also included the most thorough confirmation of nanodiamond safety to date. Citation: Laura Moore, Edward K. Chow, Eiji Osawa, J. The “Seeing is Believing” out reach project included the use of a state- of-the-art 3-D viewing wall which allows investigators and students to peer into structures that have been imaged in the Center for Advanced Molecular Imaging (CAMI) under the direction of Co-PI Thomas Meade. The CAMI Wall can be remotely controlled using an iPad and is capable of rotating and zooming in on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, and 3-D glasses enable to viewer to stand within complex structures such as animal brain scans, etc. This wall has been utilized by local K-12 student participants as well as their teachers. A multi-flat panel display allows guests to view high resolution 3-D images of data that has been acquired using adjacent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) instruments.
