Science Fair Workshop MRS. LAVERTY

Finding a Topic  What are your hobbies and interests?  What do you notice around you that you have questions about?  What problems do you have in everyday life? Choose something you are interested in!

Designing a testable question

Is it a testable question?  How does the galaxy expand?  How do alligators sleep?  How are basketballs made?  How will changing the amount of baking soda affect the cookies?  How do plants grow best?  Which paper towel brand works the best?

Research your topic!  What do we already know about your topic?  What should be considered when creating your hypothesis?  Don’t forget to site your sources! (Where you got your information)

Create your hypothesis  A hypothesis is a testable statement based on background knowledge, research, or scientific reason  Based on your research, what do you think will happen? Why do you think that?

Design an Experiment  What will stay the same (controlled variable)?  What will I change (independent variable)?  What will I measure (dependent variable)?  What are the steps in my experiment?

Design an Experiment What materials do you need?
