Common Core Lesson Read, Discuss, and Write This short lesson is designed to be completed in one or two class periods. In some cases, longer class discussions may lengthen the lesson to three days. By Dean Berry, Ed. D Gregg Berry, B.A. www. Commoncorecurriculum.info

Common Core Curriculun Standards Today’s Lesson will Focus on the Following Standards.

Common Core Writing Standard Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

Text Types and Purposes Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence

Production and Distribution of Writing Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. Use technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

Class Discussion

When people behave in extreme ways, there is generally some kind of primary motivation. What do you think motivates the vicious attacks on civilians by Middle Eastern or “home grown” terrorists? Why are they willing to conduct suicide attacks? Why are they motivated to kill innocent women and children?

Class Discussion

What methods do terrorists use to make their attacks? What other methods might terrorists use to attack America in the future?
