Apprenticeships - An Overview! Working together to help young people achieve their potential

What is an Apprenticeship? An Apprenticeship is a paid job with training, leading to a package of qualifications which relate to the job. It allows you to be in full-time work as well as continuing your education and gaining qualifications. You “earn as you learn” A real job, gaining nationally recognised qualifications

Who can do an Apprenticeship? There are different entry requirements for apprenticeships depending on the occupational sector, level and employer requirements An apprentice must be living in England and not in full-time education An apprentice must be 16 years and above and be at the statutory school leaving age An apprentice must be committed to work and learning and aware of their responsibilities to themselves, their employer and training provider Apprenticeships are an opportunity of gaining national qualifications without having to go into further or higher education at this point in your career.

Apprenticeship Type Value of qualification Equivalent to academic study Official GCSE entry Requirements Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 25 GCSEs A*-CGCSE pass at D - G Advanced Apprenticeship Level 32 A Levels or IBGCSE A - C Higher Apprenticeship Level 4,5,6,7First year of degree course, HND, Degree, Masters A Levels (UCAS points score 240 +) What is an Apprenticeship worth and what are the minimum requirements for each level?

Higher & Degree Apprenticeships Fancy earning and learning all the way to a degree? Higher and Degree Apprenticeships are a great alternative to university Many now offer qualifications up to Degree level! A new route into the professions, gaining high level skills and entry to jobs that were once only available to graduates. You will also receive training (on-and off-the-job), a salary and the opportunity to really start moving your career forward. To get onto one you’ll need A levels, vocational level 3 qualifications or an advanced apprenticeship. You could start work and take a foundation degree (level 4) and possibly a BA/BSc/BEng (level 6) or MA/MSc/MEng (level 7), depending on funding and your employer. You would also receive on-the-job training in the skills that industry needs Employers involved in Degree Apprenticeships include Accenture, BT, Capgemini, Ford, Fujitsu, GlaxoSmithKline, HM Revenue and Customs, Hewlett Packard, IBM, John Lewis, Lloyds Banking Group, Network Rail and Tata Consulting Services.

What will an Apprenticeship involve? As an employee you will be in employment for most of the time training on the job The rest of the time usually takes place off the job at a local college or training organisation where you will study for a vocational qualification / technical certificate Training Provider Employer Apprentice Training Provider

‘Off-the-job’ training and an exam (Varies between 1 and 70 days) Taught ‘on-the-job’ by the supervisor and assessed for competence by the college or training provider 1.Knowledge/ Technical Qualification 2.Competence Qualification 3.Transferable Skills 4.Employment rights and responsibilities 5.Other relevant qualifications Types of Training

Apprenticeship Wages: How much can I earn? All apprentices on an intermediate or advance apprenticeship in England must be paid a minimum hourly rate of £3.30, although a number of employers pay higher than this. (This rate applies to all year olds and those aged 19 or over in their first year of their apprenticeship) Average apprenticeship wage is £ per week Apprentices must work a minimum of 30 hours per week (although an exception may be made if the employer/apprentice has a specific case) Apprentices are now entitled to many of the same discounts as University students. For example the NUS Apprentice Extra card.
