Reminder - what it’s not It’s not just another college course It’s not a work experience programme It’s not for learners who have not thought about getting a paid job before It’s not for learners who are unsure whether they want a paid job It’s not for learners who could progress onto either a Traineeship or Apprenticeship

Key principles The majority of the young person’s time is spent at the employer’s premises Young people are expected to comply with real job conditions - such as timekeeping and dress code Stretching learning goals are set - including English and Maths Both the young person and employer have support from a Job Coach and/or Tutor Young people continue to be supported after the course of study Systematic Instruction - a method specifically designed to help people with complex learning difficulties learn new tasks, is used where appropriate

Remember - Access to Work Access to Work from Dep’t for Work & Pensions (DWP) – for Supported Internships and traineeships has been revised. Changes include: the provision for a supported employment provider to make an application on behalf of an education provider (education providers can still make the claim if they would like to do so); a move from one form per month, to one per placement for each student; and the ability to make applications up to three months in advance.

Access to Work An Access to Work grant can help pay for: Travel (when young people are unable to use public transport) Support workers and Job coaches Young people will not have to pay any money back and it won’t affect their benefits - Eligibility: internships/access-to-work-fund Your disability or health condition must affect your ability to do a job or mean you have to pay work-related costs You might not qualify if you get Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Income Support, National Insurance Credits to:- (put supported internships in the subject box)

NYCC Supported Internship Model From the DfE ‘one-off’ SEND Preparation for Employment Grant of £35k: We will offer employers £1000 at the completion of a Supported Internship to compensate for any staff resource required to set-up and support the internship. To record and pay for Supported Internship activity FE providers will need to register your interest to accessing this funding - ‘do it today’ Providers must promote Supported Internships through the NYCC Local Offer

NYCC Supported Internship Model Once a Supported Internship has been agreed to run NYCC will require: need the details of the person on the Supported Internship – (NYCC model available to NY residents) need the name of the employer and the type of activity we will send out a regular update to providers registered the balance of the grant availability of £35K Along with other funding - payment of the £1000 will be made to the FE provider through NYCC Finance – Provider to then pay to the employer

NYCC Supported Internship Model NYCC will promote 4 internal Supported Internship placements a year Through CYPS, HAS, BES and Cex, with a programme of support for both the young person and the operational line manager through Resourcing Solutions The same process and funding so ….. Referrals from ‘North Yorkshire Adult Learning’ for internal NY Supported Internships would be sent through to me Payment to Adult Learning out of the grant to Directorate or contracted service as employer

NYCC Supported Internship Model Families or employers wishing to offer Supported internships will need to work with a provider able to access EFA funding – This could be a College of FE or possibly NY Adult Learning Service following consultation.
