April 10,1912 the unsinkable ship set sail from Southampton, England to New York. Four days later it collided with an iceberg. The Titanic carried 2,207 people. 1,500 people died and 705 people survived.

After 6 ice warnings Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912 it took 3 hours to go down in the water. The Titanic was going 24 miles per hour when it hit the ice berg. The iceberg cut a hole into the hull between 220 to 245 feet long. Water rushed in at an estimated 7 tons per second.

In 1912 the Titanic tickets cost 1 st class passengers $4, for a suite, which is $83,200 today. First class passengers who wanted a room in the berth of the ship cost $ which is $2,975 today. 2 nd class tickets cost $60.00 today that would be $1,200. Third class tickets cost $40.00, which is $ today.

When the Titanic was built in 1912 she cost $7, 500, 000. Today that would be $400,000,000. The Titanic had 4 smoke stacks each one was 22 feet long and 6 stories high. It took 3,000,000 rivets to build Titanic. It took 3,000 people 3 years to build Titanic.

The Titanic had four elevators and two barber shops. It had a squash court too. The Titanic had flower pots all over it to make it look pretty. It had a swimming pool for 1st class and 2nd class passengers.

There were 20 life boats that could only fit 1,178 people. There were NO lifeboat drills on the Titanic.

100 Year Anniversary On April 8, 2012 the Titanic Memorial Cruise will set sail from Southampton and make a stop at the spot where the Titanic sank 100 years ago. Our awesome teacher, Mrs. Athey will be on that cruise!!
