C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Benefits of Technology Development: CSeries aircraft composite wing program £520 million investment in Belfast – largest ever in Northern Ireland Step change in aircraft wing technology - development of Resin Transfer Infusion 800 jobs at full production, 2,000 more in supply chain Production under way Composite wing facility Autoclave area Assembly jigs

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Canada-Europe Collaboration There have been very few other technology collaborations between Bombardier Canadian operations and European partners, except those with specific Bombardier aircraft suppliers Reasons for lack of FP7 collaboration: – Low percentage of success in being funded in a general call – No existing funding mechanism for industry in Canada. Bombardier had to fund 100% of its participation limiting its ability to participate.

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE FP7 Projects Collaborative Teams MOVER2

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Reducing Obstacles to Collaboration The Cannape exercise has identified multiple opportunities for EU-Canada collaborations; Instituting a Joint EU-Canada call in future FP should lead to a higher success rate. The announced Canadian support to the Aerospace Industry (SADI, Technology Demonstration Program) should fund Canadian participation in collaborative programs with Europe.

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Canada Research Areas of Interest for International Collaboration Advanced Configurations Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) Advanced Composites More Electrical Systems More Intelligent Systems Manufacturing Competitiveness Maintenance, Repair, Modernization and End of Life Optimization Energy Management & Alternative Fuels Highly Integrated Systems (HIS)/ Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) Advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) Systems

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Bombardier Interest in CANNAPE Identified Topics Technology Demonstration and flight Test Manufacturing Processes – Advanced Composites – Manufacturing Competitiveness Design of air vehicles that minimize environmental impact and fuel consumption – Advanced Configurations for aircraft and nacelles – Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) Aircraft systems that minimize environmental impact and energy consumption – More Electrical Systems – More Intelligent Systems – Energy Management & Alternative Fuels – Highly Integrated Systems (HIS)/ Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA)

C ANADIAN N ETWORKING A ERONAUTICS P ROJECT FOR E UROPE Conclusions Bombardier has a unique perspective of Cannape, having operations both in Canada and in Europe. Bombardier-Belfast has been and will continue to be very active in European collaborative projects, in structures and nacelles technologies. We wish to extend this partnership to other areas such as Aerodynamics, MDO, Aircraft Design and Advanced Aircraft Systems. This will require Canada-Europe collaborations projects in which each side funds appropriately its participation Bombardier is ready to propose and lead some of these projects
