Student Success K-12 “What will our secondary school programming look like when they enter grade 9?!”

9 Secondary School Program Framework Guiding Principles 3 Types of Program Delivery: - Community schools - Inter-School Programs - District Programs

10 Secondary School Program Framework Guiding Principles: Equity of access to, and breadth of programming in all community schools (the primary model of secondary school program delivery); Equity of access to Inter-School Programs and District Programs for learning not offered in the community school; Minimize transitions for students; Ensure program viability and sustainability; Support digital fluency

Community Schools * Three pathways of core programming leading to graduation diploma or certificate (Equity of Access)

Community Schools * French Immersion (10 credits) and Extended French (7 credits) certification available in all community secondary schools. - This recommendation would eliminate the need for French Immersion boundaries (Equity of Access)

Community Schools * Minimize Transitions (the goal of two main configurations): -K-6/7-12 or K-8/9-12, as pupil accommodation area reviews occur over the next several years There are no pending configuration changes.

Community Schools * Access to International French Proficiency Exam DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) in all community secondary schools (Equity of Access) * Support digital fluency

Inter-School Programs are specific courses or program packages available in some schools; the intent is to have students enrolled from a number of sending schools. SHSMs are Ministry-approved specialized programs that gives students in grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to take a concentration of courses in a sector-related subject area. These courses are complemented by practical experience and training.

Inter-School Programs * Investigation of new SHSMs (Equity of Access) * Students may attend another school for the program (Equity of Access) * Transportation provided (Equity of Access) * SHSM students may remain at their SHSM school for grade 12 (Minimizing Transitions), with transportation

District Programs Are enhanced learning opportunities not available at the community school or inter-school program level, usually with specific entrance requirements. These programs draw students from across the district, and may have specialized certification/graduation outcomes.

District Programs -Planning for second International Baccalaureate site, in western part of district (Equity of Access) * Criteria for co-location or “stand-alone”

Next Steps Consultation and decision-making related to the Secondary School Review Pupil accommodation reviews e-learning program review Advanced Placement review Future program reviews: -Adaptive -Adult -Alternative -High Performance Athlete
