PENN STATE FALLOUT: On July 23, 2012 the following sanctions against Penn State were announced by the National Collegiate Athletic Association: Five years probation. A four-year postseason ban. Vacating of all wins from 1998 to 2011, which includes 112 wins in all. A $60 million fine, the proceeds of which were to go toward an endowment for preventing child abuse. Loss of a total of 40 initial scholarships from 2013 to 2017

Where We Are with the FAIR PLAY Initiative Timeline and Significant Dates March 2012 – WICB starts development of revamped Coaching Education Programme – Coming out of discussions with our coaching consultants and stakeholders, including the England & Wales Cricket Board, there was a significant need for a child protection component in training for all entry level coaching certifications

Where We Are with the FAIR PLAY Initiative Timeline and Significant Dates May 2012 – UNICEF & WICB began discussions on draft Child Protection & Cricket programme called “FAIR PLAY” – Development of standardized body of child protection in cricket material for cricket coaches – Training workshops to be administered in each territory as a prerequisite for WICB Foundation & Level 1 Coaching Certifications

Where We Are with the FAIR PLAY Initiative – The Child Protection Training would aim to give a robust understanding of the following main principles: 1.What is Child Protection? 2.What is a Child? 3.What is Child Abuse & forms of abuse, including Bullying 4. The responsibility of Cricket Coaches 5.Recognizing child abuse 6.The DOs and DON’Ts of coaching children 7.Listening & helping children to disclose abuse 8.How to report an incident 9.Building and developing a child protection policy for Youth Cricket Clubs & Training Programmes

Where We Are with the FAIR PLAY Initiative Timeline and Significant Dates October 2013 – WICB hosts Coaching Education Master Tutor training from 12 – 18 October at Sabina Park, Jamaica for regional trainers from 13 territories. – FAIR PLAY training workshop was successfully introduced to Master Trainers on 13 October – Participating Territories: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago. – NB: Trainers representing Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda and BVI are responsible for St. Maarten, Montserrat & USVI respectively.

Where We Are with the FAIR PLAY Initiative Timeline and Significant Dates March 2014 – On Monday 10 March, WICB & UNICEF will host FAIR PLAY Training of Trainers Workshop in Antigua for regional focal points from respective National Child Protection Agencies. – Intention: Child Protection focal points to deliver FAIR PLAY Training in their respective territories, in conjunction with master cricket tutors – National Child Protection Agencies from Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago to attend training of trainers workshop.

(WICB / Scotiabank – Kiddy Cricket Programme) National Youth Development Pathway – WICB to work with Ministries of Education and Sport to support National Schools League and Tournaments Pitch In School – WICB & CARICOM are presently working on a proposal for sponsorship relating to the Pitch in School Initiative which seeks to build cricket net facilities in top producing primary and secondary school across the region
