Miss Gemma Bussey-Dexter – Advanced Skills Teacher Weldon CE Primary SchoolWilliam Law CE Primary School Key Terms: From the survey parents requested further clarification around some key terms: Grooming: is when someone builds an emotional connection with a child to gain their trust for the purposes of sexual abuse or exploitation. Children and young people can be groomed online or in the real world, by a stranger or by someone they know - for example a family member, friend or professional. Groomers may be male or female. They could be any age. Many children and young people don't understand that they have been groomed, or that what has happened is abuse. CyberBullying: Bullying that happens online, using social networks and mobile phones, is often called cyberbullying. A child can feel like there’s no escape because it can happen wherever they are, at any time of day or night. Sexting : is the exchange of self-generated sexually explicit images, through mobile picture messages or webcams over the internet. Trolling: is when a person sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory messages in an online community with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion Identity Theft: the fraudulent practice of using another person's name and personal information Internet Safety
