Memorial High School Library Not just another pretty place.

Who What When Where Why We are located in the heart of our campus and have two main entrances on the first floor. We are test-driving a new name: LEARNING COMMONS but until the signs are changed, look for the LIBRARY signs! Mrs. Renae Van Zeelst, Librarian Hours: Mon,Tues,Thurs,Friday 7:15 am - 3:45 pm Wednesday late hours 7:15 am - 4:15 pm Ext. 2527

WHEN DO YOU NEED A PLANNER/PASS for the LIBRARY??? There are 3 times* you do NOT need a signed planner hall pass section to enter the Library: Before School Your lunch period After School OTHERWISE…you MUST keep track of the planner that was given to you at the beginning of the school year and have your teacher add the time and their initials each time you want to visit the Library during instruction time. We will not accept little scraps of paper. If you lose your planner, you need to buy another one from the front office. You may not SHARE planners. *FRESHMEN STUDY HALL has its own special blue pass 3

What you will find… BOOKS!Digital Cams PCs BOOKS! Netbooks MacBooks BOOKS!Printers Flipcams Scanners BOOKS!BOOKS!Magazines Laptops (and really comfy furniture)

What you will NOT find… NO FOOD or DRINK except for clear bottled water or BULLYING in any shape or form! 5

Freshman Study Hall We welcome study hall students, but with stringent rules and high expectations! Freshman study hall passes are distributed by the Freshman office the morning before 1 st period and you may visit twice per week. It is considered instruction time, so you must be working on something school-related. And you need to plan your time well – you only get about 20 minutes in the Library since you have to go back to class when the “A”lunch bell rings. Questions? See Mrs. van Zeelst

Upperclassman Study Hall Classes We welcome study hall students, but with high expectations and stringent guidelines: 1. Students must have a signed planner for entry and no more than 4 students from one classroom may be sent at a time unless arrangements have been made in advance. 2. Students may visit the Library during study hall no more than TWICE a week. That is 40% of their weekly instruction time. 3. All visits during study hall MUST be for school work and not to play or otherwise goof off. You have several NON-instruction times during the day to goof off 7

Non-instruction time v. Instruction-time We are open before school, during lunch periods and after school for you! Those times are considered non-instruction time for YOU so that is when you are allowed to use your FaceBook and other social media accounts, listen to music (with headphones) and otherwise have some down-time. SO…that obviously means that during instruction time, you won’t be “playing” on computers in the Library. We take this very seriously… instruction-time is highly prized at MHS!

Extra Services! Printing is possible from all computers and there is a.05 charge for black/white and.25 for color prints. Please be sure that you have money before you print and also make sure you choose the right printer. You may want to accumulate some loose change and place it in your locker for printing jobs. We also have 2 scanners for you – one is attached to a Mac and the other is attached to a PC. There is no charge to use scanners. AND there are two copiers near the front entrance that charge.10 a copy (black and white only). What if you don’t have money with you for the copiers? Use a scanner, it to yourself and print it at home!

BOOKS and OTHER MATERIALS We strive to secure the new, hot titles you want to read as well as top quality non-fiction and research materials. Circulation is for 3 weeks and students may check out 5 books at a time. However, we regularly override the 5 book default to accommodate you.. The card catalog link is on the Library Resources Page and looks like this If you have a request, for a particular book series or author, just let Mrs. Van Zeelst know.

Library Resources Page You simply MUST go and explore the LRP!!!LRP!!! It has everything you need, any time of the day. THE place to start research! See Mrs. Van Zeelst for passwords.

Library Resources Page Quick Start – Use the drop down menu “FOR STUDENTS” and jump to our databases, the card catalog, and more!

Citations And once you find that wonderful article or image you need to complete the perfect paper or project, please remember that you have to give credit where credit’s due and CITE the information properly! Check out the links on the LRP to find out what the big deal is! (Links are also found on the Mustang Library Page) Noodle Tools (need password) Noodle Tools (need password) is our subscription citation generator program and it is packed with other tools and resources to help you research and write stellar papers! The link is on the LRP and your Mustang Library page.

Check out the Mustang Library page on our school website! Search for books, check out free databases, links to eBooks, private MHS databases, policy flicks, and more 14 Simply go the the MHS website and click on LIBRARY

Have an Idea? Need an Idea? Please drop by the Library and brainstorm with me…We have lots of resources and I’m constantly searching for new ideas or new materials to purchase. Feel free to request new titles. Your opinion is highly valued!

Memorial High School Library We look forward to helping you!
