Part One 1. Define conflict. 2. Define internal and external conflict. 3. List the seven types of internal and external conflicts. (You will need to add four more bullet points.)

1. What’s the conflict? Carissa really loves pizza… but she is on a diet so she’s trying to eat healthy. She goes out to dinner with her friends and they all want to split a large pizza. Carissa really wants to stick to her diet, but she also doesn’t want to upset her friends.

2. What’s the conflict? When the pilot on Brian’s plane has a heart attack, the plane crashes in the deep forest, and Brian must figure out how to make it out alive.

3. What’s the conflict? In the book, Holes, the Yelnats believe that there is a curse on their family and it will ruin the lives of each member for generations to come. They believe no one can escape what the curse has in store for them.

4. What’s the conflict? Batman: The Joker threatens to kill innocent people until Batman turns himself in. Batman must decide whether to reveal his true identity as Bruce Wayne or to continue his existence as Batman.

14. What’s the conflict? In Transformers, Sam Witwicky is a teenager who finds out he is meant to save the world from the evil Decepticons by aiding the noble Autobots. Will Sam fulfill this prophecy at the cost of his life?

15. What’s the conflict? A plane crashes in a remote area while carrying a group of doctors. There are massive injuries among the group. The temperature is dropping to freezing and wild animals are circling. Will they survive without any signs of rescue?

16. What’s the conflict? Twelve year old, DJ Walter, discovers that something isn’t right with Old Man Nebbercracker’s house. Toys have been disappearing if they even touch the yard. Now, things have gotten worse. His babysitter’s boyfriend has disappeared in the house. DJ is scared that he and his friend’s will be the next victims of the house. Will anyone believe DJ about what he saw?

17. What’s the conflict? Jenny is on her way to an opportunity of her lifetime. She is going to be a backup singer for a famous star! On her way out of her apartment, the elevator gets stuck. The emergency button doesn’t work, and she doesn’t know how she’ll make it on time.

18. What’s the conflict? Hades doesn’t want Hercules to join the gods on Mount Olympus because he knows that the young god has the ability to stop him from overthrowing Zeus, so he takes away almost all of his powers. Hercules now has to find a way to get them back.

19. What’s the conflict? A cop must face a world gone awry when the robots that everyone has come to depend on turn against humans. The robots are no longer obeying the commands from the humans, and instead are hurting or killing them. Can he save mankind?

20. What’s the conflict? Born with a facial deformity that causes others to avoid and shun him, Auggie must accept his disease and move on with his life.
