Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred?

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Heat can be transferred from matter or parts of matter. Heat is always transferred from the warmer object to the cooler object.

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Conduction happens when two objects touch each other. Something cooler has to touch something warmer for heat to transfer. OUCH!!!

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Convection is the transfer of heat in currents of gas or liquids of different temperatures. Convection causes circular (goes around) motion of liquids/gas

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Radiation is the transfer of heat through empty space.

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Thermal energy (Heat) will continue to move from one object to another until all objects have reached the same temperature. Thermal equilibrium (balance)

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Thermal energy (Heat) will continue to move from one object to another until all objects have reached the same temperature. Thermal equilibrium (balance)

Materials that easily transfer thermal energy are called conductors.

Topic: Thermal Energy Essential Question: How is thermal energy transferred? Objects that do not easily transfer heat are insulators

End of Notes 1.Process notes 1.Highlight important concepts 2.Underline Vocab Terms 3.Circle words you do not know. 2.Write questions over notes 3.Complete summary 4.Glue onto the right hand page.

Left hand assignment Draw a diagram of each of the following – Conduction – Convection – Radiation Label how the heat is moving in each type of thermal energy. Write 2-3 sentences explaining what thermal energy is and how it moves in matter.
