VELA Facility Capital Investment  Development and testing of novel and compact accelerator technologies.  Partnership with industry and the scientific community.  Applications in medicine, health, security, energy, industrial processing and science.  Potential to revolutionise the cost, compactness and efficiency of such systems.  High performance and flexible electron beam injector facility feeding customised state-of-the-art testing enclosures and associated support infrastructure. FEL Activities

FEL R&D Goals “The accelerator and FEL community has generated a number of FEL R&D goals” –Gun development –RF Issues –Electron Beam Transport Simulation and Optimization –FEL Output Simulation and Optimization –Electron & Photon Diagnostics –Synchronisation ASTeC is contributing in all areas and is nationally leading in most areas through CLARA and other FEL activities 70% of ASTeC staff effort is directed to FEL research and electron beam test facility operation and development
