First, what is QA? Quality assurance – “all actions taken to establish, protect, promote and improve the quality of health care” Avedis Donabedian 2003

Three aspects to measuring quality Structure – Material & human resources, organisational factors Process – The activities contributing to education Outcome – The changes achieved by educational activity

Structure Facilities and equipment – Learning spaces, libraries, IT, portfolios Personnel – Numbers and qualifications of teachers, supervisors and trainers Organisational factors – Faculty relationships and accountabilities, learning culture, systems of quality control

Process Educational activities – Planning learning – Formal and informal learning – Assessments – Feedback – Co-production with learners
