How we use them at Cranmere, and what you can do to help. The Six Rs

Date back to 2007 Devised through collaboration with other local schools ( Esher Church, Walton Oak, Burhill, Cleves) Originally 5Rs but we added one later! Later adopted by other schools, N.B Esher High School (who now have 8Rs!) Purpose – to help children learn how to learn…. The history of the 6Rs

Our original aims The focus built on developments in teaching and learning – personalised learning, Assessment for Learning and the enjoyment and achievement strands of Every Child Matters. An inclusive focus, aimed at developing the learning skills and personal qualities of all children and adults Providing children with life skills for learning that would transform and transcend their attitudes and behaviour.

Resilient Being resilient means “sticking at it”, even when things are really difficult! A resilient learner  sticks at it  has a positive attitude  finds interest in what they are doing  sets targets  practises

Responsible Being responsible means “looking after yourself and others.” A responsible learner knows to:  stay calm  get on with it  plan ahead  make good choices  help others

Resourceful Being resourceful means knowing “what to do” and “where to go” when you get stuck. A resourceful learner uses:  imagination  learning in different ways  asks good questions  takes risks

Reasoning Reasoning means “making careful decisions.” The learner who reasons can:  take their time  gather all the evidence  say which is better and why  choose the best method
