Synthetic Aperture Radar vs Optical Camera SAR Optical All Weather Imaging  Imaging through Dust, Snow, Smoke Detecting Targets Identifying Targets Extremely Wide Field of View Moving and Dismount Target Detection Foliage Penetration Resolution not Affected by Altitude Compact and Affordable Finally w/ SlimSAR SAR is not: A replacement for Optical SAR is: An extremely efficient method for wide area surveillance Method to detect targets and cue other sensors for identification Artemis Inc.

SlimSAR Ready for Forested and Sea Operation Lightweight UHF/L/X-Band for UAV (~3,000 ft) <40 lb SAR for ISR on UAVs or manned aircraft. Small-fast boat detection, terrain mapping and limited foliage penetrating capabilities Lightweight L-Band Maritime Awareness for UAV (~12,000 ft) Detection of illegal fishing boats and/or unwanted ships Work in conjunction with AIS beacon to determine friendly vessels Medium weight UHF/L-Band system for Large UAVs and Small Planes (~20,000 ft) <90 lb SAR for foliage penetration in triple canopy such as Gabon Cue small UAV for close up inspections with SAR or EO payloads Use for detection and location of illegal fishing boats in conjunction with AIS

Multiple Environments… Multiple Missions Kenya Gabon

SlimSAR System – UAV Pod Mount 18” SlimSAR on UAV Pod Mount SAR Antenna

SlimSAR System – UAV Body & Fixed Wing Mount

Example Use: FOREST ELEPHANTS GABON Loagno National Park Large areas of terrain must be searched for illegal activities. Snares, campsites, vehicles and weapons are covered by jungle/foliage and not visible with optics. Finding these sites is difficult and time consuming. Up until now SAR solutions have been either too slow to respond, too expensive i.e satellite or military platform, or too difficult to deploy.

Example Use: Illegal Large and Small-Scale Fishing UAV Patrolling Maritime Region Synthetic Aperture Radar, AIS Receiver, Optical Camera Altitude – 3000-5000ft AGL Duration – up to 10 hours SAR Collection : >500 sq-mi (in 10 hrs) SAR Imagery with AIS information to Cue Optical Cameras Enhances Capablity UAV collects SAR imagery and AIS data (if transmitted) on water craft in patrol area Imagery and AIS transmitted to UAV Gnd Control for near real-time processing Processing fuses SAR imagery with AIS information and relays to Control to Cue if UAV to Move lower and take Optical Picture of Vessel AIS Signal If Available , Ship Dispatched to Intercept SAR Radar Beam UAV Control and RADAR/Image Data EO Image Commercial Ship Transmitting AIS Fishing Boat No AIS Ground Control System

Maritime Synthetic Aperture Radar from ARTEMIS, Inc. System on Aerostar UAV Altitude 3,000 to 7,000 feet Weight 18 lbs. Frequency L-band The SlimSAR provides wide area maritime detection of diverse targets from UAVs Boats

Sub-aperture processed “video-SAR” shows the target motion Ground processing used to focus the target

SlimSAR IMAGE from UAV In the SAR image, you are able to count the number of boats at the pier. Not possible with IR (Thermal).

Summary SlimSAR enables the ability to search for camps, snares, vehicles and weapons cache on land through dense foliage and/or rugged terrain where conventional methods fail. SlimSAR when fused with AIS and Optical, provides a powerful surveillance and image capture method for all weather applications for large and small scale illegal fishing. SlimSAR is a cost effective and easily portable system that can be deployed in less than 1 hour for use around the world on both UAVs and fixed wing aircraft.
