Social Media The infinite abilities of a smart phone

It’s all about the Likes, Shares and Stats Social Media is driven by users desire for Likes - Shares - Retweets - Followers to the point that users can get lost in the reality of the post. Users, especially younger users, base their popularity on these numbers. Think of these as ratings or fans your user has.

●Lets users snap, edit, and share photos and 15-second videos, either publicly or with a private network of followers. ●It unites the most popular features of social media sites: sharing, seeing, and commenting on photos. ●It also lets you apply fun filters and effects to your photos, making them look high- quality and artistic. ●Teens are on the lookout for "likes." Similar to the way they use Facebook, teens may measure the "success" of their photos -- even their self-worth -- by the number of likes or comments they receive. ●Public photos are the default. Photos and videos shared on Instagram are public unless privacy settings are adjusted. ●Hashtags and location information can make photos even more visible to communities beyond a teen's followers if his or her account is public.

●A messaging app that lets users put a time limit on the pictures and videos It's a myth that Snapchats go away forever. Data is data: Whenever an image is sent, it never truly goes away. Snapchats can even be recovered. Totally mobile-based. A Snapchat Story is a photo or video you post to your very own Stories section (or feed) of your account, which is visible by you and all your friends.

A microblogging tool that allows users to post brief, 140-character messages -- called "tweets" -- and follow other users' activities. Though you can choose to keep your tweets private, most will have a public account and will unfollow or block parents Even though you can remove tweets, your followers can still read what you wrote until it's gone. Can tweet texts, videos, and photos. Retweets of the original tweet allow the content to live on forever.

●Tumblr like a cross between a blog and Twitter: It's a streaming scrapbook of text, photos, and/or videos and audio clips. Users create and follow short blogs, or "tumblogs," that can be seen by anyone online ●Reblogging and likes on Tumblr is similar to re- tweeting: A post is reblogged from one tumblog to another. ●Users can customize their blog theme, create blog posts in all sorts of different types of content formats, follow other users to see content in their dashboard feed and be followed back

●An app that allows users to text for free.Users can chat with each other one-on-one or in groups ●It's fast and has no message limits, character limits, or fees if you only use the basic features. ●Because it's an app, the texts won't show up on your kid's phone's messaging service, and you're not charged for them. ●Stranger danger is an issue. Kik allows communication with strangers who share their Kik usernames (instead of phone numbers) to find people to chat with. ●It's loaded with ads and in-app-purchases. Kik specializes in "promoted chats" -- basically, conversations between brands and users.

Users can send messages to individuals or groups using text, photos, videos and even voice messages. Unlike Kik and other popular messaging apps, WhatsApp uses your phone number rather than usernames

●Emphasis on its Communities and Collections features ●A Google + User profile is a public visible account of a user that is attached to many Google properties. ●Circles is a core feature of the Google+ Social Platform. It enables users to organize people into groups or lists for sharing ●In the "Stream", which occupies the middle of three columns on the page, users see updates from those in their Circles ●Hangouts are free video conferencing calls with up to 10 people, done through the Google+ website or mobile app.

● A free video, voice, and messaging app. ●Users can have group chats with up to 12 people for free. You can only chat with approved friends. So Users can only communicate with those on their approved contact lists. It can be distracting. Because the service makes video-chatting so affordable and accessible, in both mobile and desktop apps.

●Allows users to post and comment on other user’s posts ●Enables a Like and Dislike and NEW Reaction features ●Allows users to share other users content, pictures, videos without permissions ●The Messenger App allows users to direct or private message (DM or PM) other other users, without the same limits and moderations Facebook employs.

●A video-sharing website and app that allows users to post videos and can open up these videos to comments and likes from other users ●The premiere place online to go to watch videos on every topic under the sun and upload your own as well. ●From music videos and movies, to personal vlogs and independent films. ●Allows for user to user content and sharing videos without permissions.

●A social media app that lets users post and watch looping six-second video clips. ● The videos you post, the accounts you follow, and the comments you make on videos all are public by default. ●Youtube for viewers with little time to view long videos ●Often Tweeted via Twitter to the world

●Lets users stream and watch live broadcasts. ●As they watch, they can comment or buy gold bars to give to other users. ●Ultimately, the goal is to get lots of viewers, start trending, and grow your fan base ●Because it's live video, kids can do or say anything and can respond to requests from viewers -- in real time. ●In general, it mimics the real-life potential for kids to do things they normally wouldn't do in pursuit of approval but in a much more public way. ●Not knowing who's really watching due to anonymity

●A messaging app that erases messages after a set period of time. ●Unlike many other apps of this sort, it limits itself to text messages; users cannot send pictures or video. ●It allows for covert communication ●You don't have to have the app to receive a Burn Note. Unlike other apps users can send a Burn Note to anyone, not only others who have the program.

●A social "confessional" app that allows users to post whatever's on their minds, paired with an image. ●People normally don't confess sunshine and rainbows; common Whisper topics include insecurity, depression, and various lies told to employers and teachers. ●The app encourages users to exchange personal information in the "Meet Up" section.

●A social-networking app that lets users post brief, Twitter-like comments to the 500 geographically nearest Yik Yak users. Users can post text, images, videos. ●Uses geotags and location settings. By default, your exact location is shown unless you toggle location- sharing off. Each time you open the app, GPS updates your location. ●Users can find out opinions, secrets, rumors, and more. Plus, they'll get the bonus thrill of knowing all these have come from a 1.5-mile radius, that come from anonymous posters ●This app has it all: cyberbullying, explicit content, unintended location-sharing, and exposure to explicit information

●MeetMe does have a "Match" feature whereby users can "secretly admire" others, and its large user base means fast- paced communication and guaranteed attention. ●It's an open network. Users can chat with whomever's online, as well as search locally. ●Lots of details are required: First and last name, age, and ZIP code are requested at registration. ●The app also asks permission to use location services on your mobile devices, meaning they can find the closest matches wherever they go.

●A chat app that puts two strangers together in their choice of a text chat or a video chat room. ●Being anonymous can be very enticing and Omegle provides a no-fuss opportunity to make connections. ●Its "interest boxes" also let users filter potential chat partners by shared interests. ●Content and stranger interactions are of the utmost concern.

●A photo and messaging dating app for browsing pictures of potential matches within a certain-mile radius of the user's location. ●You swipe right to "like" a photo or left to "pass." If a person whose photo you "liked" swipes "like" on your photo, too, the app allows you to message each other. ●Meeting up is pretty much the goal. ●Geolocation means it's possible for users to meet up with nearby people.

●Periscope is all about live web video broadcasting from your mobile device. ●Anyone who starts a new broadcast can send instant notifications to people so they can tune in to start interacting by leaving comments and hearts. ●Broadcasters have the option to allow replays for users who missed out, and they can also host private broadcasts for specific users. ● Anyone who just wants to watch something can open up the app and browse through all sorts of broadcasts that are currently being hosted live.
