2016 NYSESLAT Turnkey Training Administration Notes: Grades 1–2 L/R/W Students record answers in test booklet Student answers transcribed to answer sheet by teacher or aide exactly as the student recorded them in the test booklet Teachers or aides who transcribe the students’ responses must clearly record their names on the machine-scannable (Scantron) answer sheets in the boxes that state “Print Transcriber’s Name” Script for Listening modality is printed in DFA for each session No Listening CD provided for Grades 1 and 2; examiner reads the listening passages to the students 11

2016 NYSESLAT Turnkey Training Administration Highlights: Grades 1–12 Speaking administration window: Tuesday, April 12–Friday, May 13 L/R/W administration window: Monday, May 2–Friday, May 13 Four testing sessions: Speaking and three L/R/W sessions Three L/R/W test booklets, each containing a theme-based Listening, Reading, and Writing Section A CD player is necessary for Listening for each of the Grades 3–12 L/R/W testing sessions Braille checklists available for Grades 1–2; braille tests available for Grades 3–12 3 student identification labels—one for each L/R/W booklet All test booklets to be returned to MetriTech after scoring 12

2016 NYSESLAT Turnkey Training Grades 1–12: Sequencing of L/R/W Test Sessions Administer in testing window (May 2–13, 2016) in numerical sequence Administer in numerical sequence (1, 2, then 3) Do not break up L/R/W session by modality Administering one session/day is advisable and permissable Not required to administer sessions on consecutive days Students may be given a day of rest between booklets “Make-up” sessions: Booklets do NOT need to be administered “in sequential order”; if a student has missed a booklet, this booklet will be given during the make-up period. If a student is absent during the administration of the testing sequence, s/he should be allowed to take the next test booklet and make up the missed booklet during the Make-up session. 13

2016 NYSESLAT Turnkey Training 2016 Test Enhancements: Grades 1–12 Speaking Scorers will be able to indicate that an item was skipped on both the individual student’s Speaking Score Sheet and on the Scantron answer sheet Rephrasing text provided in DFA must be read verbatim, and may be used only with Emerging level items when: Student doesn’t respond Student responds in a language other than English Student doesn’t understand the question When student response isn’t audible, examiner can ask student to repeat the response 14
