Reading Every child has a reading record that they bring home every day We have read with every child and given them a book box They change their book when they have finished it, this is their responsibility We encourage all children to read at least 10 minutes an evening. Reading is vital part of your child's development.

Homework Homework is given every Wednesday It is handed in on the following Monday. Information on how to complete the homework will be stuck in the diary and put on the website Additional assignments can be set which can be extended tasks e.g. topic project work Children can elect to finish class work at home but books must return the following day

Visits Chertsey Museum – 10 th & 11 th November Hobgoblin Theatre Company – 8 th December Voluntary contribution of £5.00

How can I help my child? Talk to them about their homework. Do they need help or are they ok to complete on their own? This feedback is important for us as teachers. Reading – please check their understanding of the text. Can they follow the story? Can they recap? Remember specifics? Most importantly encourage them to ENJOY! Maths – TIMES TABLES! Can they answer questions out of context? TARGET - grammar and punctuation across all subjects. Every writing task should be considered in the same regard as literacy and therefore a potential opportunity to improve in preparation for assessment.

Routines and Expectations Opportunities for children to become creative and individual learners. Increased level of independence to encourage children to think for themselves. Handing homework, reading records and remembering to change a reading scheme book is part of this process. Consistent behaviour systems across classes and groups to allow for clear communication of teacher expectations. This also supports children to make good choices.

Outstanding Learners

Maths & Literacy Groups The children are in groups for maths and literacy in order to personalise their learning and provide the best possible support for every child. Year 3 worked very hard last year to get children into the correct groups. Baseline tests are in the process of being completed and analysed, if there is to be any movement, it will be for the benefit of your child and plenty of notice will be given.
