Presentation transcript:

The Rural Resonance Project The Artists in Schools Residency project provided students and teachers at Temora High School the opportunity to work with non-objective artists Sarah Last and Dr. David Burraston from “The Wired Lab”.

The Rural Resonance Project Located in Muttama, NSW, “The Wired Lab” was established to develop the work pioneered by Dr. Alan Lamb, who has been recording wires in the environment for many years.

The Rural Resonance Project Working in collaboration with the artists students at TEMORA High School built a 60 metre wired instrument allowing them to interact with and interrogate the school environment in unique ways.

The Rural Resonance Project This presentation will outline the application process, designing the project, working with the artists and the outcomes for the students and teachers in Visual Arts, Photographic & Digital Media, Drama, Dance and Music.

Monday March 1 st - Artist in residency forum, Sydney. Artists in Schools Forum Held at Opera Australia Studios The Temora High School project was the only one which was really underway at this stage. We began the project with the view that we had a set timeline and a budget so there was no real reason to wait. The forum was useful in getting a picture of what other schools had applied for and we doing, which included writers in residence, working with designers and building public sculptures with artists. The “Rural Resonance Project” was unique in that it was working with a collaborative partnership of artist and curator.

VET Construction Thursday March 18 – withdrawal day Music This day we began building the “Temora High Wire” – the artists essentially saw this as a commission. The Temora High Wire is the sixth wire in Australia, and will be of interest to non-objective sound artists because it is the first in a built up area. The artists chose the site with permission of the Principal and following consideration of the school executive. We had to take into account OH&S, accessibility to students and potential for damage.

Working with School Personnel Essential to the success of the project was accessing a range of expertise from within the school. The School General Assistant, the VET Construction teacher and the Physics teacher and their classes were all involved in the project.

Building the Wires A sense of achievement The year 11 VET Construction Class enjoyed the process.
